Daily Prompt: The Forgotten Pumpkin

Forgotten Pumpkin 09.o07.2017

“Morticia I’m home.”

“And how was your night out with the boys on halloween.”

“Oh it was great. First of all we talked about the good old days down at the graveyard. Of course we all paid a visit to our first victims, reminiscing about how it was when we were still apprentices. The days before the blood banks.”

“Oh yes, Dracky, they were the days. I met up with the girls and look what we found.”

“A dead pumpkin?”

“Looks like it, poor thing. It was laying in a corner leaning on the graveyard wall.”

“What am I supposed to do with it. Pumpkin is not part of my diet, it doesn’t even have a blood group.”

“Dracky you are so boring sometimes. Not everything has to have a blood group. Give it a bite, perhaps it might start breathing again.”

“You must be kidding. Never resuscitate a dead pumpkin, especially at halloween. You don’t know what it died from.”

“What’s the problem Dracky. You are undead, so you won’t die from biting a pumpkin. You could perhaps carve a nice face into the pumpkin with your teeth.”

Well make up you minds will you, I am freezing and slowly going soft at the edges. The fairy vampire mother said that a bite from a vampire would bring me back to life again.”

“Who said that?”

“Dracky I think it was the pumpkin.”

“But Pumpkins don’t talk.”

Of course we talk when we are bewitched. So do something about it.”

“Morticia put that smelly pumpkin into the garbage.”

“But Dracky you are hurting its feelings and it has started to cry.”

“Pumpkins don’t have feelings, they are dead.”

I am not dead yet. The fairy vampire mother said I have a chance to become undead from a vampire bite. That means I could sit on your table all year. I would grow warts and might even produce a few vampire teeth. You would be the envy of all your undead friends.”

“The pumpkin is right Dracky. We would be the only vampire family with their own pet pumpkin.”

“Yes, great Morticia. Other vampires have pet wolves, and I have to take a pet pumpkin for walks?”

“It’s original.”

“Bite it yourself.”

“Won’t work Dracky, You bit me once and that was forever. You have to do an original bite.”

“But it’s full of slugs and other creepy crawlies. There might even be a spider inside. You know how they scare me. It would freeze the blood in my veins if I had any to freeze.”

“Dracky don’t be so miserable.”

“OK, perhaps just a small bite.”

“Since when can you do small bites.”

“OK, just for you Morticia.”

Oh thankyou, thankyou, I have been returned to life.”

“Satisfied Morticia, we now have a pumpkin that has turned into a giant spider.”

“Come out of the cupboard Dracky, it is a harmless spider.”

Daily Prompt: The Forgotten Pumpkin

Good Morning

Clouds 30.10 (13)

This is not a sunrise this morning. The sun was already shining when I entered the kitchen, as there were no clouds. There is nothing more boring than a plain blue sky with no clouds. I took this photo yesterday about 11.00 a.m. Mr. Swiss nicely parked on the upper level of the parking space at the supermarket on the edge where I could stand and take a few photos of the area. I even caught the sun on the righthand side. Who would have thought that supermarkets could be such a good place for scenery of the day. The cranes belong to the new estate being built, so they will be there for some time.

I was so glad to get out yesterday, even if it was only a 5-10 minute car ride to the mall. It had been 4 days since I saw something different to my garden and the appartment and I needed to see other places. We still have pleasant temperatures during the day, although last night we had our first frost night. I did not notice anything, it was more on the open fields. Yesterday I recuited No. 1 son again to remove the remainders of my hosta leaves and some dried remains of the sweet pea. As an extra he also collected all the fallen leaves in the garden. He is really such a good help, and he does in a few minutes where I would need at least half an hour.

Yesterday was the garden collection service, so he also put out our two large green plastic containers containing all the garden refuse.

Physalis

My physalis is still showing some colour in the garden. I am expecting them to go forth and multiply for next year. Apparently they do send out underground shoots. I noticed each one of these orange lanterns has a seed inside, so I am leaving this plant to do what it needs to do and am hoping for a garden full of them next year.

I finished my latest book yesterday. One of the Friedrich Glauser stories of the exploits of Sergeant Studer of the Bernese police force. The stories are from the late thirties, early forties, and are quite good. Glauser is one of my favourite Swiss authors. I have now finished Krock & Co (The Spoke in english): another murder mystery. The first victim is killed by a bicycle spoke through the lung and heart (very original) and the second is posoned. It all takes place in a hotel in the Eastern part of Switzerland at the wedding feast of Studer’s daughter who marries a police officer from Arbon, but that is only a side story to what happens. Of course not everyone’s choice as apart from knowing probably Dürrenmatt and Frisch, there are not many well known Swiss writers.

Autumn Trees 30.10 (1)

Otherwise there is not much happening in the exciting world of Mrs. Angloswiss. Autumn progresses and the leaves get less every day. Today I will clean the bathroom – big deal. This afternoon we will go to the place where they have household apparatus to help if you are a golden oldie that needs support now an again. This time we will be visiting Nieberbipp – never heard of it? No, I do not suppose you have. It is one of those places where they have stores for stuff that you do not find in towns, like electronic equipment and aids for the handicapped. I have a new description, I am handicapped.

Enjoy the day, I must begin my working day with the vacuum cleaner, sponge and mop and spraying the bathroom tiles, but I can do it. It is all a matter of mind over matter. Even Mao Ze Dong used the phrase, but I think he was talking more about the Chinese peasants taking over after starting a revolution. I am now beginning my revolution fighting in the bathroom. I am sure you will spend your day with more relaxing pasttimes than I will, but we will meet again after conquering our battles. Enjoy the day.
