Daily Prompt: Life is interesting

My latest thing is clouds, although why a thing, but we all have them. I do not mean the cloud that we visit now and again in the computer world, even if we do not want to. There are just some places on the computer you cannot visit without being absorbed into that fluffy something that will not let you go. Try using the e-mail system cloud-free. It will not work. My interest is in the real clouds, the ones that hover in the sky.

They creep to other places, apparently due to the turning motion of the earth. Sometimes you can watch them moving. Is the earth suddenly turning faster, or are the clouds moving at a higher speed.  My camera was guilty of this cloud interest. I love to take photos of interesting objects. It might be the local area where a river runs through it, or our market town. The cows, birdlife and horses at the local stables are all part of my photographic world. On the road in the car I sit in the passenger seat with the camera ready for the shot(s) of the day but even they all become monotonous with time.

I then discovered the clouds. They are never monotonous and change, are versatile and present themselves in different colours. My next step was to see if there were other crazy people like me who had their head in the clouds and I found The Cloud Appreciation Society. This was it, the answer to my thirst for clouds. However, I did not join because as a golden oldie you no longer join so much, but just observe and enjoy. Although there a few good books with illustrations produced by this group.

In my 70 years my interests have been in many places since my dad asked me “Why did the Chicken Cross the road” and I am still searching for the answer. I went on a quest for my roots when ancestry was the thing to do. Discovered 980 ancestors and gave up, because neither Queen Elizabeth or George Washington was amongst them.

I discovered photography when Mr. Swiss gave me his hand-me-down digital camera as he bought a new one. He no longer buys new ones, just uses the mobile phone cameras, but I now have a collection with various lens, so I blame that one on Mr. Swiss. I have a thing for computers, iPads and iPhones. It all keeps me out of mischief. Gone are the days when I would knit pullovers and socks for the kids. Why knit when you can buy what you need in the stores and my grandson does not really wear knits, more onesies.

I now stick to the clouds, and hope the sky does not fall on my head.

Daily Prompt: Life is interesting

Good Morning

Rose and Scaffolding

It is one of those dark doomesday days today. It is raining heavily, the winds are blowing and it is cold outside. We were told we would be feeling the influence of the tail end of the storms in the States and now it is here. Of course, nothing to compare with the force that they were over the pond.

The painters did their job yesterday and are now finished for the time being. They left some bits and pieces behind, including plastic everywhere. Mr. Swiss almost had an accident this morning, slipping on the plastic sheets that are blowing around. The basic thought is now that the painters came, saw and conquered, but left a mess behind. They will be back this morning. We are becoming two grumpy golden oldies slowly but surely. The balcony guard rail piece are still laying in our front garden and no-one really wants to accept responsiblity for that. It will probably still be here at Christmas.

Our climbing rose has now decided to attack the scaffolding and is slowly taking over part of it, by creeping upwards. Even that is garnished with a sheet of plastic, but we are still wondering for what the plastic is for.

Back in the Autumn mood, I noticed our local supermarket has quite a range of pumpkin/gourd/marrow vegetable at the moment. I thought it would be a good idea to cook a marrow risotto today for lunch, but Mr. Swiss said he does not like it, so another brilliant idea gone to waste. Admittedly marrow is not exactly a flavour bomb, but it would have been something completely different.

Today we have another tribe of workers arriving, this time in the appartment. Some brainy person at the last group meeting of our appartments (where we were absent) decided our heating pipes should be flushed through. We have floor heating and a small cupboard in the service chamber where we keep the vacuum cleaners and other such cleaning material. Looks like we will have to clear a path for the workers and remove a few pieces of shelves. It is a closed heating system and it seems that it is not really necessary  to be flushed, will never be necessary, because there is no way that it could get blocked. Even the spiders weave their webs in the corners of the ceiling. At the moment the heating functions perfectly. But today it will be done. Another distrubance on a normal day.

It is now the month of halloween. Our local supermarket once joined in with candies and all sorts of scary attractions, but they were left with them on the shelves. In the country of banks and cheese, there is no room for halloween. We have enough ghouls and ghosts hovering around our appartment in the shape of builders at the moment. And so the halloween Swiss idea only lasted a year.

And now to move on. I have a bathroom to clean today. Mr. Swiss says why bother, but I have discovered at the end, it is worth it. I have a satisfied feeling that all is done, and have nothing better to do all morning.

Enjoy the day, beware of bulders and maintenance men, they can be a danger to mankind. Look after your computers, especially if eating a doughnut whilst working on them and enjoy the day. I will leave you with an Autumn wreath seen in the local supermarket.
