Retired and Enjoying Every Minute of It
I am Ahmed Abdi, a Wordpress blogger and storyteller who searches for stories that inspire people. I love writing because it’s a reflection of how I perceive the world around me. Lost in a world of endless chaos in my childhood, Unforgettable moments of tragedy and triumphs taught me the art of storytelling where I found myself through letter writing and then turned into stories but then sadly had lost everything I wrote for years. In 2018, I decided to create a Wordpress blog site that would allow me to store and retrieve every piece. Stories from my community, city and people are what make my writing so interesting and inspiring! I’m a tea lover so a cup of tea sometimes makes my blog.

We are mostly sunny and 71 today. Perfect weather. Although I would love some rain.

We have sun and it can get quite warm in the afternoon. Last night we had high winds and it rained all night.

Lovely sunflowers!! It’s warm here (Southern California), with no breeze. Typical fall weather for this part of the world!

It is no longer so warm here, but pleasant. Sunflowers really give a sunny feeling.

Ha! The state flower of Kansas. Years ago, I grew a bunch of small sunflowers of mixed colors in my front yard for a neighbor from Oklahoma. I got to cut a few too. I brought them in and put them in a big fancy vase in the middle of the dining room table. When I came home from work the next day, there was a HUGE herd of finches dining in the dining room. The stopped what they were doing, looked at me, and that all at once, flew out the window, leaving what a herd of finches leaves all over the place, and even up in the chandelier! Heck; I would grow sunflowers again!

That sounds wonderful. I grew them in the garden, the big supersized version. The flowers were ok, but only short lived. We have finches here but more sparrows and they enjoyed the feast afterwards, but in the garden. I don’t think I would treasure them in my living room.

You know, as much as I enjoy growing my white flowers and all for myself, it is rather gratifying to grow flowers for others, including the finches. They look so happy out there when the seeds ripen. I just will not bring the sunflowers in again.

That is why I don’t cut my hibiscus seed pods. The birds enjoy them and so do the fire bugs.
