  1. Ha! The state flower of Kansas. Years ago, I grew a bunch of small sunflowers of mixed colors in my front yard for a neighbor from Oklahoma. I got to cut a few too. I brought them in and put them in a big fancy vase in the middle of the dining room table. When I came home from work the next day, there was a HUGE herd of finches dining in the dining room. The stopped what they were doing, looked at me, and that all at once, flew out the window, leaving what a herd of finches leaves all over the place, and even up in the chandelier! Heck; I would grow sunflowers again!

    • That sounds wonderful. I grew them in the garden, the big supersized version. The flowers were ok, but only short lived. We have finches here but more sparrows and they enjoyed the feast afterwards, but in the garden. I don’t think I would treasure them in my living room.
