  1. They are excellent street trees. I don’t know much about those European species, but I still believe (from my minimal experience) that they should be more popular as street trees. They are compact enough for suburban streets, and their roots are very complaisant with pavement. North American species are not as practical, and the native version (which I wrote about briefly after your post) is bare twice annually, so looks quite dead in summer.
