I had no idea what this flower was, so I had a look on my Plantsnap app on my telephone. It tells me that it is bluemink, also known as flossflower, blueweed, pussyfoot or Mexican Paintbrush, with latin name Ageratum Houstonianum, so take your choice – hoping that my app is correct.
They look so soft and furry. 😀 Wonderful!

That is a cool name. I know it as floss flower, which sound like a recommendation from a dentist. Blue mink sounds more like one of those Halston pill box caps that my mother wore in the very early 1970s, but in a color for the 1980s.

In my garden column for next week, I just mentioned how the simple toyon, Christmas berry and California Holly are all the same thing, and that that same thing had been known by five other botanical names before it got the name that it has now. Even Hollywood that was named after it was formerly named Hollywoodland.

Holly is always a symbol of Christmas time for me.

Our California holly is not really a holly, but it is good enough for us.

It’s very pretty and a lovely color. Almost lavender. Blue mink does sound like some weird fake fur piece put out in the 70s.

I always classified it as wild flower, but now I have a name for it
