Good Morning

And another misty morning today, although again I think the sun is slowly poking through. Since I took this photo I have been busy doing this and that and a little more than an hour has passed since I eventually can sit at the computer and enjoy breakfast and my daily blog.

I was rewarded with a photo of my local magpie. It arrives daily but is always to quick for my camera, but this morning I managed to catch him as it was preparing to fly off with a peanut in its beak.

I also now have a few hazelnuts for the birds, but that is more due to an accident when making a cake yesterday. I had the time when I got home from my shopping trip and decided to make a so called Tiroler cake which included hazelnuts and chocolate. I never got to the chocolate part. It is one of those cakes where you have to separate the egg yoke from the white and beat the white to a nice froth. Unfortunately my second egg yolk broke and so I gave up. My cake became an Angloswiss invention and I really had to use my gift of invention. Eventually it became a fruit cake with the bits and pieces I had left from the last fruit cake I made. Anyhow you can eat it, but I was a little distrubed with my failure to say the least.

I did manage a shopping trip yesterday and was rewarded by freshly baked bread at the store. Since I now have a slightly different routine, life seems to be more rewarding. I get into town almost daily and no longer have to organise so much. I only had to get a few provisions yesterday and can really relax.

I noticed one of the first Christmas decorations outside the restaurant next to the store. Now only about six weeks so I suppose there will be more and more symbols of the festive days arriving.

Apart from my cake tragedy yesterday, nothing more really to report. TV was showing another Schwarzenegger film yesterday, The Terminator Genysis was showing. Nothing better than seeing a naked Schwarzenegger arriving in America by time machine. Apparently they all have to be naked to travel by time machines. Anyhow apart from falling asleep in the last quarter if an hour of the film I did manage most of it, but was not so impressed.

Today nothing great planned, perhaps a trip to the local castle this afternoon and a visit to the local chickens.

I am now off to begin cooking lunch. It will be a roast of veal today with some veg and noodles, so no great cooking stress. Once in the oven it cooks itself.

Have a good day, enjoy the Sunday. My sparrow colleagues are already enjoying with their breakfast.

  1. Good morning… so many exciting things in your world !!! It is sad that all the leaves are finally off the trees … we have had to rake the leaves now every other day … today will be rainy and cool, and tomorrow the sun will be back for a few more days. We will rake the leaves one final time I reckon .. .and then that will be it. I was also thinking about getting the Christmas tree out early this year .. just to cheer things up. We have a miniature version, about 60 cm tall … I strung lights on it a few years ago, and put tiny ornaments … and at the end of the season I just put it in a plastic garbage bag and put it away for the year, then soon I just take it out again, fluff it up a bit .. and plug it in. It is so soothing in the evening with the soft glow of the lights … I really enjoy it. I’m a sucker for that sort of thing .. I just don’t like to take it all down in January … too much bother … So we will see maybe this coming week now that it is getting dark around 5 pm .. I will get it out and start the festivities early. I don’t think six weeks is too long … do you? Not this year at least with eveything else being so disturbing, especialy in our country … alas… Have a great day … SLP …

    • I am glad that the leaves are now down. There are just a few stalks left from the flowers. I do not have a Christmas Tree, cannot be bothered, but we do have a Christmas Wreath with the four candles burning. The only thing I really celebrate at Christmas is the good food. It also gets quite dark earlier here as well, but it doesn’t bother me too much. I think we might have a miniature Christmas Tree with a few scanty lights. Perhaps we might use it.

  2. Good afternoon, it is rainy day here. Not a lot happening. The news sad with all the deaths and infighting of our so called leaders. I remember separating the eggs. I always broke the eggs in a separate dish so if the yolk and blood spoke occur I could use another egg for my cake and use the egg in something elsewhere. Have a stress free the rest of the day and stay safe.

    • Lovely weather again here, so I went for a walk around the local farm and chicken run, although they tend to run everywhere. I never really have a problem with separating yolks from the white, buy yesterday it happened. I have just finished uploading 100 photos from my trip.

  3. In Terminator III: Rise of the Machines (or something like that) one of the androids, or whatever they are, from the future arrived right in downtown Beverly Hills, just about half a block from one of the newspapers I work for. I should watch the movie I suppose. It was right near the corner of Rodeo Drive (the main shopping district) and Wilshire Boulevard. hmmmm . . . Brent and I somehow got into quite a bit of trouble at various times at that intersection.

      • We were actually good kids! We just happened to have a weird way of getting into . . . situations. The horn of the old Dodge got stuck on right there on that corner! That was very embarrassing! Right nearby, while hanging out on a particularly pleasant summer evening, Brent and I ‘tried’ to enter an art gallery with big glass doors. Brent thought the doors were open, but they weren’t, as he walked right into one. He was so embarrassed that he ran off and left me there laughing too hard to stand up straight and leave.
