I saw these growin in the garden of the local trade school. I had to check what they were, but they are the original unspoilt geranium it seems.

We have a North American species that has the common name of Cranesbill, because when the petals fall off the remainder supposedly reminded the early settlers of a crane’s beak or bill.

They seem to have become more popular since last year. They might have always been popular. I would not know since they are uncommon here. I do like the pelargoniums which we know as geraniums though.

They have always been popular in Europe in boxes outside in Summer. I prefer the more natural pelargoniums andhave some in the garden which arrive regularly every year

Yes, that is what most people like about them. They just look more ‘natural’. Besides, the zonal geraniums that I like so much tend to look rather ‘cheap’. I like them anyway, because I have been growing them since I was a kid.
