Retired and Enjoying Every Minute of It
I am Ahmed Abdi, a Wordpress blogger and storyteller who searches for stories that inspire people. I love writing because it’s a reflection of how I perceive the world around me. Lost in a world of endless chaos in my childhood, Unforgettable moments of tragedy and triumphs taught me the art of storytelling where I found myself through letter writing and then turned into stories but then sadly had lost everything I wrote for years. In 2018, I decided to create a Wordpress blog site that would allow me to store and retrieve every piece. Stories from my community, city and people are what make my writing so interesting and inspiring! I’m a tea lover so a cup of tea sometimes makes my blog.

I like all magnolias, but these I worship!

What a beautiful capture. There is something about white flowers….. Very pretty, Pat.

A garden near me has one of these lovely magnolias and I love it when it starts to bloom. It hasn’t got the showiness or the flamboyance of the heady-scented magnolia we are used to, but I like its delicate-looking flowers. If I had a larger garden I would have a magnolia tree and a couple of lilac trees as I love these but alas, my garden is quite small since I down-sized and it’s a constant struggle to find room for what I buy. Today I’m trying to find room to cram in some wallflowers which I shouldn’t have bought!

I had my garden converted to high rise beds as I can no longer bend so well. I have a few bushes on the edge, but also have to stop adding to everything otherwise it gets a little overcrowded. I once planted wallflowers from seed and had them for many years.

Yes, not only is it a star magnolia, but it is a ‘White Star’ magnolia, which is less common than those with bigger or blushed flowers. We have one at work, and it is doing surprisingly well after getting relocated during warm summer weather last summer (2018), but they do not get very big here.

Insel them now and again. I was surprised to discover that it is a member of the magnolia family

When I was a kid, only the evergreen Southern magnolia was common. I grew up thinking that it was the ‘standard’ for magnolia. There was a deciduous magnolia in the neighborhood, but I had no idea what it was until I went to college.
