They are quite variable. Those with the biggest and brightest flowers might have only a few big leaves. Those with smaller and less garish flowers tend to have fluffier foliage that works nice as houseplants.

Ha! I do not bother with them either. A friend in Palo Alto who really knows nothing about horticulture grows two huge specimens in the foyer of his home. I do not know how he does it.

I now have 7 and they are very easy to care for – they like light and temperate surroundings and to be allowed to dry out between watering. Orchid mix is recommended as a potting medium. There are some that don’t have the colourful bracts but have huge leaves – I would not have space for them!
