RDP #57: Moon

We have heatwave temperatures of 31° C and the sun is shining, but where is the moon? Oh yes, it is there, it is always there and tonight it has company.

Moon and Mars

Mars has decide to join the moon.

“It is all fake news”

“Stop complaining moon, you are hanging around every night expanding and shrinking. It is all an optical illusion. Even tonight you are not bigger than usual. I am Mars, and not just something circling around another planet, and twice as big as you are and I have two moons.  Tonight everyone will see the truth because I will be next to you.”

“Two moons? If you mean those two lumps of rock with the names Phoebus and Demos, then forget it. A human could walk across one of them in a day, well perhaps two days. No way Mars, it will just look like you are one of the big ones. You are spoiling my show. I would have been a blond moon and down on Earth they would be celebrating my appearance with photos in the newspaper and films on their TV. You know I get all the TV signals up here. Now I am just stuck in your shadow. I would have been a vampire’s delight.”

“All a myth. You are just an experimental object for humans to aim for with their rockets.  How degrading to have flags stuck into your surface and footprints from humans. I am untouched, no-one lands on my surface. Now and again I get a few machines and robots, but I remain spared from human footprints. Tonight we will be side by side. Make the most of it, the sun might not even be burning the next time I arrive.”

“How long to you plan to hang around?”

“No idea, and if I did I would not tell you. Huh, just a mere earth moon is nothing compare to planet Mars, they even named me after a the god of war.”

“Just one big show off.”

And so they departed on their own orbits afterwards, never to see each other again perhaps. I took the photo from my Nightview app on my iPad.

RDP #57: Moon

Good Morning

Clouds 26.07 (3)

I did not really intend to go anywhere yesterday afternoon. We are now hitting temperatures of over 30°C and in the middle of a record heatweave since 70 years. There is no sign of it cooling down in the next couple of weeks, but there was really some places I wanted to visit to take a few photos. I went by wheelchair and noticed that you do get some sort of breeze when speeding along. I am now getting  very daring and travel usually in the second gear. I have even tried the third gear. I have discovered if the path is uneven, you do not notice it so much the faster you go, although I am still quite careful and do not want to be a traffic hindrance or get a speeding fine.

This time I was in a different part of town taking photos of a derelict factory,  Derelict. This happened to be next to the factory where my son works. He is only there in the morning and as I drove past I noticed the scaffolding where he works, as they are  being renovated.

Of course I stopped to take a few photos, and my son’s boss was there. He told me that his pet cockatoo, Öttu (Otto) was perched outside as he knows I like to take photos. Otto seemed to be happy about the opportunity and was my model.

Cockatoo

It is not every factory owner that takes his cockatoo to work and allows it to sit on his shoulder now and again. Otto also stays in his cage, but when the boss is outside, he comes too and usually finds a perch on a tree or a post somewhere to observe the world. I think Otto is now about 25 years old and still going strong.

After my various visits I moved across the road where there is our local sunflower field. It was planted some time ago and the sunflowers have grown tall in the meanwhile. They are most probably for sunflower oil production from the seeds and it will not be long before they are processed.

At the beginning it was a field of flowers, and now a field of large seed heads. I think they plant a special sort producing more seeds, as it is the seeds that are needed.

My next stop was through town, again. It is the quickest way to get back home again and in town there is always something going on.

This time I had to cross through the edge of town where there are many banks and the larger stores.  There used to be an old fountain in the middle, but this was replaced about 30 years ago with something more modern: a metal grid with water spouts. I suppose some people like it, and of course it gives a modern touch. In the background you can see the entrance to the underground car park. Solothurn is a smaller market town but we have everything.

And if you get bored you can always have a drink in a street café, we have enough, but these were also half empty. I think the heat is the main reason for people staying at home. I am now quite used to going to town in my wheelchair and must admit I really enjoy it. I make the most of the possiblities I have.  I think I am more on my way now than when I could manage to walk normally.

Swans 26 (1)

As usual I wheeled my way home along the river bank and there were a few swan pairs around, but not so many. The eggs have hatched and you often meet the parents with their cygnets on the river.

Today I really do not want to go anywhere, but have other things to do like week-end shopping organisation and taking it easy. It will be another hot one today. Have fun and apparently you should drink enough if you are in a hot weather area. See you later. I will leave you with a buddleia I found growing at the end of the back path to the derelict factory I visited. Nature always finds a way somewhere.
