Indeed! In France and UK there are many, many elderly houses ‘crowned’ with so many chimneys that one doesn’t quite understan d it…. here the pigeons are reigning!

I wish I had more photos of the house I grew up in in London. We all had chimneys, because heating with coal was the only alternative we had. No electric fires at that time.

Yes that is what I- understood. Per fireplace a chimney….. seems quite extravagant really.

Not really extgravagant, a way of life to keep warm. We did not have the electricity for fires.

I remember the days of coal-burning. I packed many a bucketful to keep the fires burning.
