Sometimes streams flow in a complicated way, but as long as they flow, that is the main thing. At the moment things are flowing everywhere in my life. It is that time of the year again to collect all sorts of documents for our tax authorities. Last year was the first time I did it all on my own, so you could think that this year it would be easier, but it was not. My tax advisor had left an important document out of his records for my son’s tax declaratiion. A relation of mine saw it but i had already sent the docuents to the tax athorities. No problem, actually, but when I got the new tax documents I had to send it again to the tax authoritires but this time with a letter of explanation. The problem here was that the letter had to be in German. Of course I can write German, but full of mistakes. Eventually with some friendly persuation, my tax man wrote the letter and sent the correct documents – so eventually no problem. And now I have to complete the documents for Mr. Swiss and I. Also no problem, but I am still collecting the docuents. Life is so complicated when you have to do it on your own. Perhaps next year it will be better.
RDP Thursday: Complicated
I’m afraid, it won’t…. tax returns ALWAYS are taking far too much time and effort and finally are seldom totally correct…. which then results, maybe 2 years later, in an additional invoice – with interests, of course! Can’t win.

I am hoping for the best. Last year worked, but there is always something more.

Taxes are always a pain, even when they’re simple as mine are now.

Today I got my final document and hope to finish the Greek Tax tragedy over the week-end. Then all I have to do is pay.

Yes you can say that again, especially if you are in a country with a different language.

This reminded me I need to sort out the tax documents and get them to my tax preparer, too! Way back in the 1960’s-early 1970’s, I was able to do my taxes on a postcard!. Now…so much complication and making assure all documents have arrived in the mail. I sent mine in a couple years ago without one document and had to have my preparer send an updated one when the missing document showed up in my mail. Fortunately, I didn’t have to provide an explanation. I suppose the fact I had a refund coming made the difference. If the missing document had indicated money due to Uncle Sam, the Internal Revenue folks might have sent me a letter!

It was all very new to me last year, when Mr. Swiss moved out to his golden oldie home and I had no idea. Also being in a German speaking country had its disadvantages, but I did it with some help from a few people and now the theatre has a repeat performance this year. Today I got my final document and over the week-end I hope to finish it all.
