Meet the lift. It is the door on the left of the photo which is closed. A lift can be an important transport method, especially if you tend to fall down stairs, lose your balance, and have an underground car park, which applies to me. We live on the ground floor, but we have a cellar, a hobby room and a laundry room all down below. I am dependent on the lift as stair walking is neither a hobby or a must when I can avoid it.
It came to pass that I had another memorable, not-to-be-forgotten fall and broke my femur which is a very long bone, in the left leg. With the modern mechanics of surgery, steel and a drill, it was all pieced together. The result was great according to the surgeon, who probably nailed this operation as success of the day. I am still thinking about it, especially after seeing the colourful landscape which has now appeared on the skin of the leg and acquiring a new addition to my already funny walk.
And so the sixth day arrived when the gods in white decided to send me home. Many things happened on this day. It was the day when the lift broke down. Not just broke down, but refused to be repaired without an essential part which no-one seemed to have. Mr. Swiss picked me up from the hospital and brought me home but instead of driving into the garage, he parked outside, deposited my newly bought walker (in a nice shiny violet colour) and said I would have to walk the path until our front door instead of just a quick trip to the garage where I could afterwards ascend to my apartment in the lift.
This lift has served its purpose for 20 years and on this day in 2018 AD it died. Of course the repairmen were desolate after Mr. Swiss explained my predicament and so I was forced to walk with my walker to my home. I met a neighbour on the way which broke up the monotony of the walk.
Today I was settling into my after lunch golden oldie sleep when there was a ring at the door. It was not the postman, because he only rings twice. Mr. Swiss found the lift repairman who informed him that the lift was working again, full of apologies for the delay. I am overjoyed I can now travel, go places and see things, armed with a walker and a broken leg. It seems there was a delay in repair as our building management did not give precise instructions that this expensive part of the lift can be inserted.
We put men on the moon, but repairing lifts is a puzzle.
Yay! I’m glad it will be easier for you to get out and about!!!

Although I am still far from it. My walks are to the bathroom and kitchen. There is a big worry in the background about falling again

I should exercise now and again to strengthen it

I am very glad they fixed it. What an unfortunate day for it to break down, too. I wish we had a lift. We have the stair climber, but that’s only from the upper floor to the front door. There’s another short flight of stairs to the basement. Some days, I can get there. Other days, I can’t. Today, I’m not even going to try.

The lift was always useful. Although we live ground floor there is a basement with the laundry room, our cellar and the hobby room. Mr. Swiss has had to carry the laundry down the stairs to the washing machine and up again afterwards. Poor man has enough to do at the moment

A lift is important as stairs are not easy to manage. I was a joyful day, the day I walk down the stairs. Not does relieved my mind but pulls on the damaged muscles.

I began to use lifts where I could when I was working. I was always unsteady on stairs, probably a fore warning of my MS

I’m so glad the lift is now mended so you can navigate to all parts of your home and beyond. Do continue to be careful as you explore the farther areas — but enjoy being able to be out and about!

Indoors at home I fell safe enough. The first time I go out again will be a big step for me

Take it slow and easy, and don’t rush it! You’ll do just fine!

Mr. Swiss is glad. Carrying the laundry up and down the stairs is not fun
