  1. ‘Nasturtium’ translates to ‘nose twister’, apparently because some of the related species exhibit objectionable foliar aroma. It became a popular flower for traditional window boxes, both because it cascades downward, and also because the aromatic foliage is supposedly repellent to mosquitoes that want to come in through the windows.
