Just to say from the beginning I hate wearing socks. At home I wear my comfortable houseshoes, but without socks. Winter and Summer no socks and I never have cold feet. Our modern homes have central heating, so why heat the feet when not necessary. I hate the feeling of having a woolly mass enclosing my feet. The only time I actually voluntarily wear socks is when I go out in Winter, otherwise I suppose it would look strange walking bare foot in the shoes when it snows or temperatures are below zero.
I had two sons and a husband and they all wore socks. It seemed to be a masculine aspect of nature. And then there is the problem when you wash them. and put them together again. I will not go into detail, but it often happened that 2, 3 or 4 pair of socks were no longer pairs. I actually liked knitting socks, mainly for my boys (and a daughter) when they went to school. It was custom in Switzerland that they would wear knee socks. I loved kniitting them with the various patterns I would try. I remember reinforcing the toe and heel with an extra thread thread to stop them wearing out, but these were for my children. I cannot even remember how Mr. Swiss feet looked, they were always covered in a sock. The photo is from the stocks I still have from Mr. Swiss. Just half of them, the other half are in his golden oldie home. He even wears socks in Summer with sandels. How Swiss can you get.
Actually I am glad for the socks he still has at home. On a rare occasion in Winter, I can always take a pair to wear. I think Mr. Swiss mainly chose the same colour for his socks in case he lost one, who knows.
As a knitter myself, I love that you knitted socks for your children. I’m sure they were beautiful.

I loved knitting the varioius patterns, especially the cable patterns. I remember knitting the toe, and heel with an extra thread to reinformce them. I just never liked wearing socks myself, but it was then custom for the Swiss school kids to wear the knee length socks..

“a masculine aspect of nature” – this might be a fun fact, but so true! I have two sons and when it comes to socks, one of them is exactly like his grandfather (my father) about never beeing bare-footed elsewhere, if not taking a shower or a bath. I never could imagine having a kid that disliked the seaside sands between the toes, but I got one. For me, socks are for the cold times of the year or to wear in hiking boots.

Same here. My kids are no loger kids and my younger son only wears socks in the Addidas and Puma etc. but short socks. My other son is autistic and always wears socks, it is in his system. However, if he is on holiday on a beach, then he wears sandles with socks, it is just his routine.
