The world cup has now been decided. It seems that it will be Spain and Argentina at the final match. In my younger years I was quite a football fan. My friend was also quite keen and we would on most Saturday afternoons go to a live football match. Both living in London, we had a choice of games, although my team was West Ham United, my friend was a Leyton Orient Fan. It was in the sixties when we mainly were following our teams.
I am proud to say I remember seeing West Ham play when Bobby Moore was their captain. I saw him play some of the first games for the team. Yes, they were wonderful memories and football was football and the big sums of money now paid were just dreams. The players had to earn their money and win the matches.
My enthusiasm returned in the past weeks as the finals approached for the Word Cup. I have now been living in Switzerland for the past 60 years, and naturally have been following the Swiss team over the years. My husband is Swiss, my children were all born in Switzerland and we all have Swiss passports. Naturally with the years I became interested in the Swiss Team. The English teams I knew in the sisties are no longer. Most of the players now retired, if still alive. Of course I was a happy bunny to see how well Switzerland progressed, and yes, it would have been nice to see them win the cup. Alas they were knocked out in the quarter finals, but England had progressed. However, England lost their qualifying match for the final and so they are also now going home, and I am left with Spain or Argentina, both teams that I definitely do not support so my football hopes are no longer. I will wait and perhaps in the next four years there will again be a final match with my favourite teâms.
I’m hoping Spain wins 🏆
