Daily Writing Prompt: The best Thing to do in your City.

I live in a small village, but just 20 minutes walk to our central city of Solothurn in Switzerland. It is said it is the oldest town in the country. I know that the Romans founded it as Solodorum but eventally left and made room for a few other conquerers. It is basically Roman Catholic on the religious side, although the Swiss are also Swiss Reform church. For me the best thing to do in this city is take photographs. You can see our cathedral in the photo which was built some time in the middle ages, but has been modernised since.

The roads in our old town are usually paved with cobble stones. You can drive through the town, althouh not so advisable as we have very narrow streets.

as you can see on one of the main squares showing our hotel, which has also been there since many years.

And even our cobblestones have to been cleaned now and again. This is a place in front of one of our restaurants.

So if you ever visit, bring youir camera with you for taking photos and be prepared to walk everywhere. Leav you car outside the town walls.

Our local town council makes it highly impossible to get information when you have a problem. At the moment I have a problem, perhaps for others not so much, but I am in the position currently of having to complete various documents for my handicapped son. He is not able, and slowly I have the feeling that I am also not able. The language used in high places, as now, is a differing vocabularly to the one I am accustomed to. They use other phrases and words and it is highly cofusing. They even put a remark that you should bring an interpreter with you if speaking another language. I can speak quite good German, even Swiss dialect, so that is not another language basically, but is it? Beurocratic places do seem to speak a different language. So I deided to phone the council offices, a telephone No. is supplied. However, I get a recording telling me that the offices are only available from 8.30 a.m. until 11.30 a.m. and I was calling in the afternoon. I wish I had had such a job when I was a working woman. Now I will have to patient. For such a quiet country town it seems like we are all New Yorkers and not Swiss peasants.
