    • Here they are a bulb to be planted in Autumn and they remain sleeping until Spring when they begin to grow and flower. By the end of Spring they disappear and sleep again until the next year in Spring. It seems you have Spring all year round in sunny California.

      • That is the problem. In some mild climates here, several types of bulbs do not get adequate chill during winter to bloom reliably for spring. That is why we do not even bother with peonies. They are more reliant on chill.
