My Flower of the Day: Christrose (Hellebore)

What a lovely surprise this morning. On a sunny early Spring day my Christrose had opened its flowers. It was 8,00 a.m., but I grabbed my camera and took the photo. It was a unique opportunity. I have a few of these flowers, but only one or two white flowers. The others as more Lentroses, although they are also flowering now. Actually the Christrose should already be flowering at Christmas, but rare in our cold Winters.

And here is the lent rose from this morning.

Spring is on its way, at least in my garden

My garden is full of crocus. The are sprouting everywhere, in all their colours. I have never had such a wonderful show. The sun is shining, although temperatures are still a little on the cool side, 5-10°C during the day, but no more snow and the rain is also staying away. The nice thing about the crocus is that they appear every year at the same time, and even multiply. It began with just a few flowers, and now they are everywhere.

Poinsettia

How did I do it. I have no idea, but it happened. This Christmas flower was a gift some time mid November. My neighbour always gives me one at that time of the year, as she knows it will soon be my birthday in December. I love this flower, but usually it begins to loose leaves and colour during January.

This year I seem to have been doing something right. I have lost no leaves and it has even produced its little buds again. I discovered that too much water is not good and I give it a dose once a week and not too much. This seems to be working. Even the colour still appears on new leaves, although if I notice the colour begins to disappear I will put it in a closed space during the night which is apparently the thing to do. I am so happy with this Poinsettia. The first success after all these years.

I love these little plants, they are always showing their flowers. I have had this one since half a year and it must be at least the fourth time that it is flowering. The trick seems to be to just leave them to do their own thing and wait patiently until new buds appear. Then you can cut the old stalks away.

FOTD 21st December 2024: Poinsettia

Every year one of my neighbours gives me a poinsettia at Christmas. Actually it is my birthday on 6th December, which is St. Nicholas day, and it is my birthday present. However being so near to Christmas it is for my a combined gift and I treasure it always. This year I want to try to keep it until next year by putiing in a dark room during the night to see if it will get the red leaves again.

Autumn Leaves

It is that time of the year again. Autumn has its beauty with the colourful leaves, but clearin them away after they fall is not so beautiful. I began today as I have quite a collection, and this is only about half. The rest are still falling.

I hopefully collected them in little piles and hope that the our local gardiner will/might clear them away the next time he visits. Perhaps the weather might get a little windy. I have not so much energy to collect them but perhaps nature will do its work and make them disappear.
