I took the photo from our village and inserted the names of the various peaks from the view over the Bernese Overland.

So here I am in Switzerland, which actually was only completed with the addition of the Kanton of Ticino in 1803, although another Kanton joined in 1978 as the people in Jura decided they should have their own Kanton and not be lead by Kanton of Bern, where they used to be.

I mean Switzerland exists because three guys from three mountain regions had to much to drink, sat around a log fire and decided they should have their own country. OK, perhaps not exactly, but it was many years ago and they were probably annoyed that every country in Europe wanted to take over, so they did their own thing. Of course William Tell probably had something to say about it, but he was then long gone and his only quality was shooting the apple from his son’s head and having a few harsh words with an Austrian guy called Gessler. This is my version but look it up in Wikipedia for the actual truth.

Today some guy in the States is planning on taking over the world, although there is a guy in Russia who has the same idea. And who really wants Greenland. A lot of land, but more ice and snow than anything else, and if the Danes are happy there, then why should they change. Perhaps they could let that idiot in America live there, but on his own. He might learn how to build an iglo.

    • It is more a legend than a story, although who knows what really happened. Switzerland is such a small country, you can travel through it in a couple of hours, and I live a little north of the middle. We have a population now of about eight million, but not all are Swiss – I have a Swiss passport, but also a Brtish passport.

  1. If only Trump would promise to actually LIVE in Greenland, I might support it! He could make friends with polar bears. I hear they are real friendly with strangers.

In the USA, we were created by a bunch of guys drinking Adams’ ale (they are still producing it and it’s the best product Boston has to offer). One ale over the line and they decided to incite everyone to take over the country. Of course, dumbass King Geo III was a minor incentive too. Still, I think it was mostly the booze.
