So you arrive in Switzerland, leave the plane and go to the next town, perhaps a restaurant. Wanting to be friendly you greet in the German language, “Guten Tag” you say. The answer comes – “Parlez-vou francais? So you go to another town and this time you know what to say “Bonjour”. The answer – non capisco. So you travel further and naturally say Bongiorno to the locals. However Bongiorno gets you knowhere. You are now in the part of Switzerland where romanesque is spoken and the local native greets you with “Allegra”.

What do I say in my part of Switzerland, I just say “Grüessech” – no problem, but make sure the last two letters (ch) are pronounYes ced with a gutteral pronounciation to make it genuine Swiss German.

We just have too many languages in Switzerland and it is a small country, so the language borders are everywhere.
