Rule No. 1: do not put your bananas in a fridge. They will still remain with patches of brown to black and go soft. A fridge will not stop them deteriorating and they would only be fit for a banana cake afterwards, if you want one. The remedy would be to eat them as soon as possible. Now I know why my mum always made banana sandwiches for my tea. It was just to use her bananas before they completely disintegrated.
FOWC with Fandango: Refrigerator
I used to bake banana bread, but Owen got really big on baked goods, so now we are on a hold. We try to buy only enough bananas for two of us to eat in two days. Did you get that Chicita Banana advertisement in which she sang: “And never put bananas in your re-friger-a-tor.” It was very Spanish sounding. I miss those old singing ads. They were fun.

I never made banana bread, but is probably quite good. I never saw the Chiquita advertisement. We didn’t have that on Swiss TV. Since Mr. Swiss is no longer here I do not even watch the TV since almost 4 years.

Quite the contrary to preserving, the fridge will make them go brown much faster.

In fact, there are several types of food you should not put into the fridge: bananas, tomatoes, and also potatoes. Potatoes change the starch thingy, not in a good way, tomatoes lose their taste – and bananas – see above.

I would never think of putting potatoes in the fridge, but tomatoes I do. I read you should not as they lose a lot of flavour, but if I leave them out of the fridge, they go kaput, soft and mouldy. So I have no great choice.
