RDP Friday: Beast

One thing that always fascinated me in Switzerland was the cow population. They are our neighbours, you meet them constantly. Mr. Swiss and I were once out for a walk in the neighbourhood and we saw this group of cows. Suddently Mr. Swiss said “let’s go, we cannot stay here.”

I was astonished and asked why, such a nice group of cows.

“They are not all cows” he said, “there is a bull amongst them and that is not good. they are dangerous.”

I had a coser look, and yes one of the cows had a nice pair or horns. Mr. Swiss growing up in this country, had more respect for a bull than I did.

The bull even had a nice ring though his nose, attached to a rope, although not being an expert I did not know why the rope was there. Mr. Swiss was suddenly not there, he had disapeared along the path, so I decided to follow, but not after taking a few photos.

That was my first and only experience of meeting a bull in the field. Usually our bulls are kept seperate from the cows. Generally they have no wives or girlfriends, it is all done by the vet and the cows have their calves with no attachments, they do not even know who the fathers are. However, now and again a farmer puts a real bull amongst the cows, although no-one asked the cows about it.
