Clowns were always something that belonged to a circus. Was it to amuse the children, or perhaps to keep them in suspense? I never liked clowns. They always had a certain unknown element of terror: their painted faces, enlarged red nose and wigs of various shocking colours – no not something to amuse, more to fear. I never found them funny, but something to dread. There is always a certain unknown mystery hidden in their face. Many horror films have been made with a clown as the central figure.
They are an unknown mystry, so no thankyou, no clowns please.
I don’t need them either. As a kid, I wasn’t in fear by people in disguise, probably because in North Germany are not much traditions that way, but living in Bavaria and Austria, I learned by my children, how scary they felt about clowns, “St. Martins” and “Santa Clauses”, especially outside in the dark, when they were in Kindergarten / playschool.
