This is a painting of a very old building in the village of Niederwil in Switzerland, where my Mr. Swiss grew up. It is known as the locals in the village “The Oele” which is a Swiss German word for something to with oil, but more I do not know. When a local will visit us, they know immediately what the painting shows. “Das isch der Oele in Niederwil” they say. Special about this painting is that my husband had a wonderful talent. He can paint and draw and as a young teenager he painted. This painting hangs in the entrance to our apartment.
His talent for painting in water colours was something special I thought. I cannot paint, I have no talent in that direction.. He would now and again sit outside on the porch with a pencil and paper and a work of art would result. He would sometimes paint in oil, but that is a messy job and smells. However, no problem.
I have collections of his drawings and paintings at home, some are framed. A wonderful legacy for me. He is now in a golden oldie home, but I am convinced if he had again the opportunity he would use his talent.
RDP Tuesday: Legacy
He is musical and artistic–two wonderful talents.

Can you bring him a watercolor palette and a pad? I bet he would love that.

Will think about it, although it might not work.

I think Violet’s suggestion might be a useful and joyful one…. even if nothing comes from it, it might be worth a try.

I will ask him what he thinksm we have all the tools at hone still, although it might not work in his golden oldie home as he would need space.

It might have been an oil mill – I found this article for you:

what I don‘t know is, if this place is the one in the canton Solothurn, as there are quite a few others with the same name, e.g. in Aargau etc.

This was definitely an oil mill in the village of Niederwill, an ancient building, and is still there today. I will ask Mr. Swiss next time I visit. I think he was about 14 years old when he did the painting. He grew up in the village and painted it in his village.
