Instructions for a wheelchair

I visited Mr. Swiss this afternoon. I no longer go so often He has now been in his golden oldie home for the past 3 years, now in the fourth year, and we are both getting older. I live very near, so if I just stay for half an hour it is no problem. I just keep him up to date on life. He is OK, alhthough about 2 months ago he fell and managed to damage his hip bone. He was operated on the same day and back at the home in the afternoon, so it could have been worse.

Since then he is permanently in a wheelchair in the home, not electric, but just normal. He is getting used to it, but often has problems moving the wheelchair. Today he discovered there is a brake on it which he has to release to move. I cannot help him so much as I have my own mobility problems. I just hope he does not forget about the brake. His memory is no longer how it was. I really now need instructions how these mechanical wheelchairs function. They are not as easy as they look.

  1. We have one in the house and that is the ONLY reason I know how to use it. My memory is not dependable anymore either. I am so easily distracted, if I don’t do whatever I need to do the minute I think of it, I will forget it inless than a minute. More like 15 seconds. Garry is much the same, but drifts more as he talks. Both of us go one room distant and don’t know why we are in that room or what we wanted.

I can still walk as long as the path is flat — as in paved. Even grass trips me up. Politically, the U.S. is a disaster and it will be years before anything improves — IF it improves. It actually could get worse and considering history and the incredible stupidity of our “voting population,” it surely will. Get worse, I mean.

    • I also have a wheelchair at home, but it is electric, which is easier to use. Actually it is mine, but I never use it as mainly use my scooter and walker when I go anywhere. I have to be very careful walking, as if I fall I cannot stand again without help.

We do not have an actuall president, but 7 ministers each in charge of a department and they belong to different parties. It is organised that way. At the moment one of the ministers has demissioned, and they have not been able to find a replacement yet. No-one wants the job – probably too much work.

      • I have NO idea what is going on in this country. I have no idea what — if anything — is the reason for all the madness. I don’t see anything good coming out of this. I’m just hoping when all is said and done, we still have an income and will survive. I think hoping for more would be pointless. I don’t think ANYONE know what (or why) stuff is happening.

        • It seems he took a step back with his new customs tarifs. He even threatened to do it in Switzerland, although it seems the Swiss governement were not bothered.
