RDP Thursday: Stamp

I began to collect stamps at about the age of 11. Of course I got myself an album which I still have. For some unknown reason I kept it all these years, and even put it in my case when I left England for Switzerland. I still have it in my cupboard, much the worst for wear. I must have collected stamps from all over the world for a few years. I do not know if any are valuable, but some were only issued in the early years of the 19th centuary.

I am afraid they are now the worst for wear, but I still have them. This is the page from the english stamps, with a few others that fell onto the page. I remember I would buy some foreign stamps mostly on a Saturday when it was the week-end. I always got them in the same store on our local main road. You can even see a Persian stamp with the Shah of Persia on it.

One advantage was perhaps, that I learnt a lot about the other countries. I remember a Stanly Gibbons catalogue that had every stamp printed on the pages which had been issued in the world. I used to borrow it from the local library to check up on my collection and when the original stamps were issued. It still seems to exist, but no longer as one large catalogue.

  1. Fabulous to still have a stamp collection from your childhood. I am sure there are valuable ones among that lot but the value is in memories.
Thanks for joining in Pat 😀
