Our local psychiatiric clinic at the foot of the Jura mountains. It looks a bit cloudy but that is what psychiatrists are for – to clear the clouds away.
My contacts with this clinic have given me firm ideas on the purpose of psychiatry and not always positive. The positive experience was for my son, who is autistic. He had a good psychiatrist who helped my son although he is autistic and there is no cure, but you can guide the problems. Otherwise psychiatrists are convinced they are doing a good job, but they would be, otherwise it probably would not work. I do not want to go into details about the family connection with psychiatry, but let is be known that I am absolutely not a fan of psychiatry. Based on experience, avoid them when possible. Most are younger who have no idea how to deal with life’s problems and have it all from the text books and the school.
In my younger days you had to solve your own problems. Today one of the first solutions is to find a psychiatrist.
FOWC with Fandango: Psychology
I think the usefulness of a psychiatrist depends on the problem. My life was saved through psychiatry.

Actually my autistic son was examined already at the age of 4-5 by the expert on autismus in Switzerland. Dr. Affolter in St. Gallen. We made the journey to her central with one of his carers. She said after 2-3 minutes “intermodul” whatever that was and then the episodes began with his analysis and treatment. Long story, and now he is 54 years old and is managing OK. I am now the expert.

Yep. I’m the expert on me at this point, too. I admire you and your son very much.

I’m glad they were useful for your son. I have a similar experience with one of my own sons and a diagnosis opens doors.

It certainly does, but up to the age of 12, it is a difficult way to go. Autistic children can be very troublesome.

Psychology can be very troublesome. Not everyone is a Sigmund Freud.
