  1. Your world must smell like heaven. Mostly what we have going on is that it is very hot. VERY hot. Unhealthily hot. For me, it means staying inside because this level of heat puts a strain on my heart. I don’t mind staying in. It really IS too hot to do anything. I hope it cools down soon.

    • Not really such a strong, but we probably no longer notice the smell. We have had a strange Summer. Basically the usual hot weather, but again and again rain, which is not so bad. We have enough water, and I do not have to water the garden. Water has become quite an expensive commocity here.

  2. Wow, that is a straight species! (It is an ancestor to the more refined cultivars.) I do not know if it is French or English lavender, or a species that I am unfamiliar with. I never see straight species. Spanish lavender can self sow here, but even the feral specimens are likely a bit different from wild Spanish lavender within its native range.

    • This is the lavender growing on our estate, It grows around a tree usually. It is probably a smaller form. Otherwise it grows everywhere here. I quite like it as it seems to keep the insects away.

      • Yes! That was one of its historical uses! (‘Lav’ in lavender refers to washing because it was used for laundry also.) Window boxes became standard architectural features in Venice because mosquitoes were such an annoyance, and, a long time ago, screens were very expensive. The window boxes contained very aromatic vegetation, such as lavender, rosemary, geraniums (pelargoniums) and nasturtiums, to deter mosquitoes. They also provided a few fresh herbs for culinary application.
