The leaf knobs have begun to poke through the earth.

Yes it is a peony, but not one of the filled types and known as the Asian peony. I got the plant many years ago and it returns every year.

After a struggle, it succeeded and the peony opened.

Slowly they are breaking out of the buds and showing themselves.

It was a long wait, but the first peony has arrived, just in time for Whitsun. We call them Whit Roses (Pfingstrose) translated from the German, so they are in time. Perhaps they were waiting for the holiday to blossom, who knows. There are many to come when I see the many buds I have.

This is one of my peonies, but thinking about leaving the safety of the bud and waiting for the sun. At the moment it has quite wet feet.

I saw these peony buds in the store, but they were not cheap so I just took a photo.

Is this what baby triffids look like. Have they now invaded my garden to take over? I am not sure, although they are growing where my peony grows every year. I will keep an eye on them.
