Autumn Mixture including CallunaFOTD 19th October 2020: Calluna
Something we often now see in the stores, an autumn appearance: a type of heather.FOTD 17th October 2020: Calluna
I think they are a cousin of heather.
Another greeting from last Autumn
A reminder of the Autumn days: heather’s little sister.
The mini heather, but look in the garden in Autumn
I saw this colourful bunch of calluna, a heather sort, and knew I must have a photo – a seasonal greeting from Autumn.
They seem to be producing them in all sorts of colours at the moment, but they make a good display. I think a far relation of heather, and they are the main plant of the season at the moment, always arriving in late October.
Calluna, as far as I know, is an inferior type of heather and when it arrives in our shops in Switzerland, you know that Autumn is arriving and Winter just around the corner. It begins to show its flowers now and continues into Winter, being the only plant in Winter still showing some flowers, although even then its time is limited. Today was the first time I have seen it in our local supermarket.
Heather is slightly larger and more durable. I have bought them now and again and planted them in the garden. They stay but are no longer what they were when fresh.
