Good Evening

I did not even bother to go outside to take this photo, but did it through the window. Why? Because it has been raining all afternoon. It is cold outside and miserable and with no possibility to stay dry if I go anywhere. I am in lock down at home. One advantage is that you can sleep better in such weather.

This guy seemed to be quite happy in this weather and was looking for a nice comfortable place to stay.

Admittedly it was not the best looking worm I had seen, but I am sure his/her mother loved it. I am still trying to find which end is the head.

So what do you do with such an afternoon. I discovered a lot of my old CD’s this week and thought it would be a good idea to transfer the music to my computer. I had a look in Internet to see how it works, and it seem it is all done with the windows media player so no problem. I found the Windows media player, followed the instructions and uploaded a CD, what could be more difficult. My next step was to transfer it all to a hard disc as I did not want to exhaust the memory on my computer. Easier said than done, although I managed to transfer one CD to the hard disc. However, it would not accept more. The windows media player is OK, but I had problems finding the various guidelines on he screen and try as I did it remained with just one CD. I eventually gave up after 2 hours and decided I needed help from a human being. At least I had some excitement this afternoon.

This little guy also appeared in my apartment this week, and he was quite big. I decided it was a kingsized wasp although I had my doubts whether it could be a hornet. He seemed to be exhausted and so I had the opportunity for a photo.

And that was my exciting day – wet, wet, wet. Tomorrow will probably not be much better. Luckily I have enough food to survive until the weather improves. I hope your day was better.

Good Evening

It really is evening now. I took this photo in the afternoon when we still had some daylight, although a very dull day again and raining constantly. If this continues, that guy with the big boat will appear and begin to collect the animals in pairs. Luckily we are on higher ground and the river runs below.

The birds stayed under cover to sheltering from the rain. I also stayed at home. I think it must be at least two weeks since I ventured outside. At first we had snow and now it is wet. I spent the morning cooking lunch and this afternoon I tidied up the desk. It has always been Mr. Swiss desk, but I have now taken it over with my computer as he no longer does so much with the computer. He has somehow lost the interest. He really did have a lot of junk and I have now cleared it away and there is even room for his computer as well at the side. I am quite pleased how it is now organised. I also sorted the printer in the other room and there is room for my Apple computer and Mr. Swiss other two computers. They actually work, but he never really used them for the last few years.

Otherwise I was busy uploading some photos and now it is almost time to prepare something for the evening meal. This evening it will be smoked salmon on toast with some garnish of chopped shalottes and horse radish. It will make a change from the cold cuts.

I called Mr. Swiss who was relaxing in his rehab. His bed is next to the window where he is and they have the same dull weather as we do: no fantastic views over the lake, everything grey in grey. He cannot wait to return home again on Saturday. He found the cost of the invalide taxi to bring him home is quite expensive, 450 Swiss Francs. On the other hand I cannot pick him up as I do not have a car and he is about 1-2 hours away on the motorway. Basically the sickness insurance does not cover the home journey, but they said I should send the receipt to them in any case and they might cover part of it. Basically I find you can spend your money on worse things.

The blackbird arrived this afternoon and decided to have a bird’s eye view of the surroundings by perching on the bird feeder, although I think he got a little wet from the rain.

And that is all I have to say today so keep safe and warm and stay dry, although perhaps you have no rain as we do.

Good Evening

So here I am again after getting the day behind me, all on my own in he evening, although No. 1 son is also here but in his room. It was another cold day, but some sun in the afternoon. The snow has now almost completely gone and I do not think we will be having a white Christmas, although it would not bother me too much if we did as I am not going anywhere. It is getting towards the end of the year and various Swiss financial matters have to be settled. I have alreay received my letter from the Swiss Pension authorities requiring the amount I paid my cleaning lady this year. I have time to complete the form until end January although I have all I need already. Based on the information I supply they work out how much I should pay to gurantee her pension money when she is retired. I am slowly becoming a finance expert. I spent most of the afternoon working it all out. I am not looking forward to January when we begin to complete the income tax details for next year and this time I am really on my own.

Bird life was really a bit on the slow side today. They seem to have had enough to eat and were just sitting in the trees waiting for something to happen.

The blackbird was foraging around in the ground but with no stress.

I was kept busy with cooking for me and No. 1 son. I should not really say it I suppose, but with Mr. Swiss not here I can really cook what I like. Tonight we enjoyed a beetroot salad with the cold cuts. Mr. Swiss does not like beetroot.

Covid cases reach their highest level in Switzerland today. It is certainly no looking so good in the world. I have been jabbed and boosted so what could possibly happen I think, but you are never safe. I do not mix very much with others.

At least the local Jura mountains in my back yard were showing themselves from their better side with a layer of snow. And that was another day without Mr. Swiss.

Good Afternoon

Where was I this morning? I had to reconstruct my usual morning habits due to a doctor’s visit. My cleaning lady usually arrives on Tuesday morning but she is away for two weeks in Miami. Cleaning ladies seem to see more of the world today than the people she cleans for. She was attending a woman’s conference and will be gone for two weeks, so my bathroom and shower, as well as the kitchen, will be surviving without her.

I was again visiting another part of town with my car. I dropped Mr. Swiss off at the docs and afterwards parked in the underground car park. It was one of those parks that go deep into the bowels of the earth on a circular route and you hope and pray that there will be an available space before reaching the bottom. Was it my imagination or does the air seem to get hotter the further you go down?  I afterwards joined Mr. Swiss and dealt with our business at the docs. When we left Mr. Swiss decided he had an important purchase to make in the store next to where the doc is.

He loves his Swiss Gerber cream cheese and they only have them in our local co-op shop. Whilst he completed his mission I dug the car out of the parking house and picked him up afterwards.

After arriving home I had planned a meal that would not take so much time. I had already cooked the rice before we left in the morning, so only had to reheat it. My next task was after lunch. As I did not plan on any important excursions this afternoon I organised No. 1 son to come with me to the glass and metal depot. It is in our village and there are various containers for the recycling of the unwanted goods.

Son No 1 is very well organised. I sit in the car the he takes the bags and empties the unwanted into the correct containers. And that was my morning until after lunch. I have now recovered from my midday sleep and are back  in action.

Good Afternoon

Just to prove that I am still here and not amongst the missing, here is a short afternoon greeting coupled with a photo from yesterday afternoon. Now it is just blue skies, no clouds, and just boring.

This morning our cleaning lady was here, I was busy with this and that in the apartment and also had to organise my online banking account with the new method they have developed with entering. At the beginning, many years ago, a code was enough. Then we all got computer generated SMS codes on the telephone and now we have a combination with the grand finale of a nice little picture, composed of dots and colours to scan into your computer, together with a code etc. etc. that might appear afterwards if you have done it correctly. It sounds like fun, but until you get to where you want to go the first time, I needed about half an hour and now it works. What more do they want to invent to make it more certain? Perhaps we should now submit our DNA or get one of those stripy codes tattooed on our hand to hold against the computer screen which they also might change every week until we have no room left on our skin.

And our hot pink (that’s the name of it) buddleia is now flowering at last, one after the other in the front garden. I was thinking about going somewhere this afternoon but after the morning excitement I decided to stay at home to make sure my computer does not feel so alone and neglected. I now have a few blogs to catch up on, so I am now off.

You may all now relax that you know I am still amongst the living, although sometimes I do not quite feel like it. Have fun

Good Afternoon

Road to Langendorf 30.05 (4)

I automatically wanted to visit the Daily Prompt grid, the place that I have been visiting for the past 8 years, where I always found something to write about. Sometimes the words did not suit me and often I had to have a look in a dictionary to see what it was all about, but now it is finished. I only found a traffic light that was permanently switched to red. Traffic lights have a habit of turning red, just when you want to go further. Undaunted I decided to go further as I even got a promise from WordPress that the archives were still there to examine and choose from. Unfortunately they omitted to say that the archives were also eight years old and had nothing new.

Now I have been summoned but not fetched, no-one wants me. Where there is a will there is a way, and so I delved into my own archives. As I was leaving the supermarket this morning I noticed there was a special offer being held for roses, 2 for 9.90 Swiss Francs.

Why not 10 Swiss Francs. Was this one of those public relational tricks to make us think we were buying a bargain because they were 10  rappen (Swiss for cents) less than 10 francs. I bought them all the same. They were in plastic pots neatly packed in a plastic bag with a hanger to carry them. I decided why not, I can put one pot on the table on the back porch and the other in the front porch. When they are finished I can plant them in the garden and hope that they will grow and flower again.

I managed to lose Mr. Swiss in the supermarket this morning. I said in a loud and clear voice I will go and buy some mushrooms. He looked at me from a distance and that was the last I saw of him for at least 15 minutes. In the meanwhile I collected a few other items, like various vegetables, cream and some cold cuts nicely packed in plastic. Suddenly I saw Mr. Swiss again, hovering around the butchers section.  He proudly told me he had bought the meat for Sunday which I was not so happy about, because that is something I like to choose myself. By each article that I buy I strike it from our joint cloud shopping list on our iPhones. Mr. Swiss was astonished to see that the list was almost empty except for the meat. Whilst he spend 15 minutes buying one portion of meat, I bought everything except for the meat in the same time. I would add he had the trolley and I only had my walker, but it is amazing what you can pile into those walkers.

I know this is boring, but believe me I had a real exciting time in the supermarket and I wrote this without a prompt.Who needs a prompt when daily life can be so exciting.

And now I must go, I have places to see and to go in my wheelchair. The nice thing about not having a daily prompt is that I do not have to bother about including pingbacks in my writing.

Good Afternoon

X-rayNo Good Morning today as I had to go to the hospital for a check on how my broken leg was healing. First of all I had to have another x-ray to see if the repair work carried out last January was still in one piece. The x-ray people at the hospital were very helpful preparing me for the big pictures. Afterwards I had a few words with an assistant doc about my progress. He had all my pictures on his computer so I asked if I could have them as well. He said he could print them out, or he could take pictures. I gave him my mobile phone and he obliged with a couple of pictures. Here you can see the engineering work on my left leg. The strong white lines are steel. The top slanting one seems to be some sort of screw and the straight one is in the bone, all examples of good engineering.

And then we have the bottom part of the steel rod further down in the leg. I remember them inserting these two screws, as I did have or want a full aneasthetic and was awake by all the events in the operation. I suddenly hear an electric drilll which was when they did the drilling work to insert the two parallel screws. Isn’t modern medicine wonderful?

I saw the surgeon this morning and he said that everything was OK and I would not need to see him again. The surgeon also emphasised that I should put the weight on my left leg as much as possible to strengthen it as it was now weakened after the operation. It is often easier said than done with this good ideas. It took me a time to walk again with just my stick, as self confidence was failing, but I am getting there
