I decided to treat myself to a lavender plant today, actually two. They only had this special sort, but I read that mosquitos, fleas, moths, and ticks do not like them, also slugs, so I am hoping that my herb bed will be free of such pests.

That is not just any lavender. It is Spanish lavender! The floral spikes have those cute bunny ears. Unlike other species, its floral color can include pink, blue, white, and, of course, lavender. It self-sows here. A splendid specimen grew next to the driveway out front.

Looks like it was a good choice. I hope mine spread their seeds

Yes, but almost any lavender could be a good choice. It seems to me that, Spanish lavender is the most colorful species in bloom. I suspect that it is less popular (here) only because of its irregular form. French and English lavender develop strictly rounded form, like a dense tumbleweed.
