FOWC with Fandango: Docile

Here we have a nice little docile ladybug sitting on a leaf and thinking about food. All insects think about food. Next to her we have an ant if you look carefully there are also some white specks on the leaves.

If you take a closer look at the white specks you will se they are aphids. I like to see ladybirds on on my plants. This was a rose bush full of new bunds, however ants and aphids are not my favourites. It seems ladybugs live on aphids, so I decided let let the aphids live as they would be breakfast and dinner for my ladybug. The ants also serve their purpose as they milk the aphids, and now we have the problem. Ladybugs and ant do not agree. Milking them is not the idea of the ladybug and actually also not mine.

This little adventure all happened yesterday. This morning the ladybird was still there, but the ants were gone. Unfortunately the aphids are still there, but I think I will let them get on with it. Those insects are not as docile as you would like them to be and they can fight it out for themselves. May the ladybug win.

RDP Wednesday: Sunflower

Sunflowers are one of our main crops in Switzerland. Their seeds supply us with oil. One of our local farmers planted a field of them some years ago and I would often take a few photos. There must have bee hundreds of them growing.

They were everywhere and busy producing their seeds.
And when the seeds were disappearing, the sunflowers were even smiling at us as we passed.
