I have a dismayed bird population in my garden at the moment. Since last November their bird house was full of edible goodies daily. The sparrows and tits made the most of the offerings and there was only standing room on the platform. I think I had the fattest sparrows in the village. It was not such a cold Winter and they were spoilt, but they were a happy bird population. However, our local supermarket stops selling bird seeds during March and I also no longer feed the birds. It is time that they find their own food for their families, as the eggs are now hatched and mum and dad bird have enough to do looking after the new arrivals. My bird house is now in a quiet corner of the garden, ready for use again next Winter. Of course the birds were a little dismayed, but they no longer visit and have moved on.

I think I have the fattest sparrows hereabouts, too. But a patch of ground is showing through on the driveway, and this weekend is supposed to be warm, so maybe they can fend for themselves by the time our latest bag of seeds is empty.

I don’t see them anymore but I think they have moved on to another garden, or perhaps in town or in the forest
