Primula vulgaris, English primrose? Were these small flowers in rounded groups on short stems? It looks like a closeup picture of a modern variety of the classic English primrose to me.

Primula X polyantha is what most of the modern varieties are.

Primroses ARE petunias. Just different names in different locations.

We just call them primeli in swiss German. I really get confused sometimes with o many languages.
