I tried everything. It is not often that I get a real cocoanut and I knew why. First of all I tried to bore a hole with a screwdriver, actually two screwdriver. Eventually I took the hammer. It worked, but it was nothing with nothing drinking the coconut milk. That escaped into the sink. Breaking trough a coconut is not the easiest problem to solve.

In China we drank the water by drilling/tapping a hole and then broke the coconut with a heavy cleaver.

I don’t have a cleaver and very rarely need one.

There is a seam in the husk that runs from between two eyes to the other end of the coconut — it you hit that seam with a hammer, the meat should break apart fairly easily.

I think I had this coconut about five years ago and it was my first and only one in 55 years of marriage.

I must remember that because I couldn’t open the last one at all
