RDP Monday: Gruesome

This happened about a year ago. Yes, it is my arm. This is what can happen if you slip and fall and you try to stop your fall by resting the arm on a surface. Unfortunately the surface was the cooking range where there was boiling water in the pan where my arm found a resting place. I fell all the same and within a few minutes the medical help arrived and carted me off to the hospital for treatment on my burns. After a couple of hours they released me with a bandaged arm smothered in ointment. Today you cannot see anything although the top layer of skin was burnt away. And yes, as you can see, it was quite gruisome.

RDP Sunday: Sleep

I could call this photo “Find the Cat” but if you look carefully you will find our Fluffy sleeping amongst Mr. Swiss practice drum set. It seems that cats do not hear what they do not want to hear. A drum set is not exactly the ideal place for a sleep, but if you are a feline you take over.

Otherwise yesterday night was my favourite night of the year. Since Spring something was missing in my life, and yesterday night I found it again. Yes, the missing hour arrived. Imagine in the morning the alarm sounding at 7.30 a.m. and then I realised it was actually 8.30 a.m., my hour had returned. This continued throughout the morning and after ironing my washing I realised I should hurry to get dinner cooked. No way, I had not yet altered the time on the oven and micro wave. I thought that cannot be that I only have a few minutes to begin cooking, but when checking on my automatic timing machines which seem to be steered by some sort of satellite, I realised that I had gained an hour – again. This was perfect, what a wonderful day.

We should really change the clocks monthly, perhaps even weekly. Think of all the hours of sleep we would gain,

FOWC with Fandango: Upgrade

My two year old amaryllis has upgraded itself. I never throw them away when the flowers are gone, you never know. This one grew a few new leaves, but nothing special. They wilted and disappeared, however, never give up. This morning I noticed my patience had been rewarded. Yes, a new bud has appeared. I will now be giving it more water and encouraging its growth. It is not the first time an amaryllis has made a new flower, but this one was really exhausting my patience. However, it is making a new flower, hopefully in time for Christnas.

RDP Saturday: Fear

I am a golden oldie, born just after the second world war, that my parents had to endure. Dad was abroad fighting, and mum was sheltering in the garden in the huts built for safety as the planes were flying over with their bombs.

Today we are living in fear of unseen enemies. Who would have thought that for some unknown reason a new virus would arrive threatening the human race, but it did. A few years ago we began to take our mask with us when entering the outside world. Shopping was no longer a chore, but an ordeal. You no longer recognised your friends and neighbours when they were in the store as we were all wearing our masks. There was an unknown fear of getting infected and we were all going for our vaccinations. In the meanwhile one vaccination has become many and we seem to be collecting them, the booster days are here, although I no longer bother. I cannot keep up with all the new variations of this virus with their various names. Today I read in the newspaper that yet a new development has arrived.

We are now living with a daily fear.
