This columbine is a surprise for me every year. It just suddenly appears in my garden amongst my forget-me-nots. I never planted it, it arrived by seed from somewhere.

We planted one columbine 20 years ago and we get dozens of them every year, a big more violet than yours, but close. I think the birds carry the seeds. Regardless, they are lovely and are one of my favorite spring flowers.

That is nice! We tried to grow them a few times, but they bloom only briefly, and do not regenerate as perennials for the following year. Columbine is the state flower of Colorado.

That is what they should do. Your climate is likely more like the high elevations of the Rocky Mountains than ours is. They might be right at home there.

New plants have started coming up from last year’s seed, but the weird winter we had seemed to kill the older plants. Yours are absolutely gorgeous!
