Chronicles of an Anglo Swiss 
Flowering quince, Chaenomeles japonica (or other species of Chaenomeles), is a different species from fruiting quince, Cydonia oblonga (or other species of Cydonia). Fruiting quince is not as pretty in bloom, but produces those big quince fruit that are used for pectin extract. Flowering quince produces only a few small fruits that are not good for much, although some people appreciate them.
