I am Ahmed Abdi, a Wordpress blogger and storyteller who searches for stories that inspire people. I love writing because itâs a reflection of how I perceive the world around me. Lost in a world of endless chaos in my childhood, Unforgettable moments of tragedy and triumphs taught me the art of storytelling where I found myself through letter writing and then turned into stories but then sadly had lost everything I wrote for years. In 2018, I decided to create a Wordpress blog site that would allow me to store and retrieve every piece. Stories from my community, city and people are what make my writing so interesting and inspiring! Iâm a tea lover so a cup of tea sometimes makes my blog.

This is so pretty. I have tried to grow lavender several times. And failed every time. Either it is too hot here or I am watering it too much….but I have give up on lavender. I’ll just admire your photo, instead.

This was in a store, but I have grown lavender but find it a little boring.

Lavenders, which are species of Lavandula, are generally chaparral plants. It is unlikely that the weather there is too warm for them, but it could be too damp. They can rot if they get too much rain or irrigation, and the soil stays damp for too long.

Thanks, Tony. It was probably me then. I’m in Florida and didn’t want it to get too hot. đ

You, or the climate? The humidity there is not conducive to chaparral plants. Lavenders could likely live there, but not if also watered too regularly, especially if the foliage gets wet.

It is Spanish lavender, Lavandula stoechas.

Spanish lavender, Lavandula stoechas! It is also known as French lavender, but I consider Lavandula dentata to be French lavender. It is less popular than the several cultivars of English lavender, but is actually the easiest to grow in our chaparral climate. It can actually naturalize to a minor degree.

It is more attractive than the more common lavender.

I agree, although, it is less popular than French and English lavenders here. French lavender used to be trendy. English lavender, and its various cultivars, became more trendy. Spanish lavender should be trendy here because it is most tolerant of the climates here. It is more colorful, with those ‘bunny ears’ protruding from the tops of its blooms, and can bloom in blue, pink or white, instead of just lavender purple.

After all this lavender talk I am encouraged to plant it again.

Oh, gardening can be such a bad habit. I should not get so carried away with such discussion.
