Something completely different. As I was outside looking for something for a photo, this plane crossed the sky over my head leaving a silver trail. Otherwise I remained at home today. I had one of my brilliant ideas.

Papers are collecting since I begun my task of organisation and my idea is to just slip some into a plastic bag for the rubbish collection so that they gradually disappear. However I have a machine.

Yes, Mr. Swiss once bought a shredder for his waste, although I was never allowed to use it. He was sure I had nothing important enough to shred, and he was right. However now I am shredding for everyone and so today I decided to use it. I found the instruction manual yesterday so there was nothing stopping me. However, this shredder was a slow shredder and more than 1-2 pages together it would not digest. I also had to remove all paper clips and staples from various documents.

It did its job and shredded and here is the result. Unfortunately it also decided to spread the results when I was packing the shreds into the bag and when I had finished the job I spent half an hour removing small strips of paper from the floor and carpet. In other words this shredder was shredding everywhere. I decided that the shredder was not the solution to my document problems and so have returned it to its corner until perhaps my No. 2 son decides he needs a shredder.
And that was my adventurous day

I noticed today that progress is being made on the new appartement block and the outlines have now reached the second floor. It will be three floors when completed and the view of the trees from the forest will no longer be as it was. However I am now 75 years old, so who cares.
I will now pack my computer away for the evening and hope that you all have a good week-end start. The neighbour’s cat called past for a sleep in my garden and sends his greeetings.

This was not a good one.

I got a shredder — it handles about 4 pages at a time. I’ve used it to shred papers that have compromising information on them like old address, my social security number, stuff like that. I had a file cabinet full of stuff that was ancient but I didn’t feel good about putting it into the trash or recycling bins. I wouldn’t say it gets a lot of use, but I’m glad it’s there.

If a certain person had regularly disposy of the paperwork it would not have been such a problem.

Yep. The Good X was a hoarder. It took 3 years for me to clean out all the things he’d bought and/or saved that had no purpose, were obsolete, were broken. It’s a long struggle…

Hello Roschti–long time no see! I had a shredder once, but it jammed way too much. Now I just tear sheets into smaller bits. If someone wants to go through the trash and try to match up hundreds of little bits of paper–have at it.

This shredder was also jamming constantly so I decided to givie it up. It’s mostly old tax form copies and too private for the public eye

To much hassle, shredding pages one by one!

My shredder will take up to 12 pages, but who counts out the pages when in a shredding frenzy? More than twelve pages and you get a paper jam that requires a lot of patience and strength to undo.
I, too, was confronted with lots of paper shreds on the floor by the machine, and they are a pain to get up, even with a vacuum. I still use the shredder, just not until I have several bags full worth of documents to shred. The cleanup is just too much effort.
I think those stamps that obliterate any useful information are a better, cleaner solution, even a faster one than shredding. Cheaper, too.

I was looking at alternatives but have not found anything. I will try it with lining the shredder with a bag

I’ve done that, and it does help a bit.

I line our shredder with a bag, making sure it doesn’t interfer with the shredding parts – no more mess! Use a medium bag like a pedal bin liner or a larger carrier bag (though we don’t have those anymore). What are you going to do with all that free space? More orchids??

Good idea.will try it. I am still making space, but I am planning most of the time. And no more orchids I have enough

Shredded documents work somewhat well for starting a fire in a stove or fireplace, like any other paper. Also, they can be mulch for big houseplants. They turn rather brown and flatten out as they deteriorate.

But they clogged up my vacuum cleaner

Well, that could be a problem if they escape.

Catching up on your blog posts from the past few days. I am glad you are working on shredding. We are too … lots and lots .. and lots .. of shredding .. although it is important to keep some things for a few years but if one is not constantly vigilant .. it can pile up. WHew … take care and have a great day .. SLP …

I am not sure if I will do it gain. After a blocked vacuum cleaner and a trail of paper all over the floor I am thinking about it. It was my first time and probably the last. It seems my husband never disposed of anything.
