Yes, I have returned after an absence of a few days. I am still trying to discover why I was not so well, but have only suspicions at the moment. I will be calling my doctor, but at the moment she is not available. I went to the doctor last Tuesday for my very first flu jab, thinking it would now be a good idea as I am now a golden oldie and should be more careful with my health. The doctor’s nurse does the jabs, and she is no problem. I jab myself every second day with my MS injections, and it is no artistic feat. She told me I might have some mild symptoms afterwards, but no big deal. A day later I had a sore throat and the cough began. It progressed to a general feeling of being sick. A day later I had fever and only on Sunday did I again feel like a human being. I am sure what I was suffering was an actual attack of flu, but perhaps not so strong as a real 100% flu. I was not even able to look at the computer, I felt so bad and spent most of the time nursing my bed, just dragging myself to the kitchen to cook something for the family. I did not really feel like eating very much myself.

I managed to take a few photos of the outside world yesterday from my window. In between I was still making sure that my local bird population were not starving and filled up their supplies once a day. It seems they are now getting a little impatient with their food rations and did I see them fighing for their seeds? The bird of the left was being atacked and falling from the table or perhaps it just lost its balance

I have been on the telephone in the meanwhile trying to organise our booster for Kovid, but it seems to be a thing of the impossible. I would have to travel by train to a village to get my booster, and the vaccination bus is no longer travelling in the villages, although they did not come anywhere near our village. The lady on the telephone got a little stressed with me and was glad to get rid of me I think. I have now contacted my doctor and she is searching for a solution for me. I feel like a second class person slowly. I just live in the wrong village, and this at a time when the cases are increasing everywhere.

As you an see our Jay is still visting regularly in my garden and taking a pick at the food in the bird house, which is actually meant for the smaller types. However, it is not an agressive bird like a magpie or crow and leave the other birds to do their own thing, although it impresses with its size of course.

In the meanwhile I managed to contact my doc and she said it is possible after the flue jab, that I could get a light touch of the flu, although I did not find it so light. She will also be searching for a problem for my Covid jab and will be calling back. And now I should really go. I wanted a few minutes for a blog, but spent more time on the phone dealing with Kovid jabs and doctors. Keep safe everyone. At last I seem to be leading a normal life again.

  1. It is very common to get a dose of flu from the jab. I don’t any more since I have been having them for over a decade. No reaction from Astra Zenica either. We are booked in for our 3rd. Some enterprising individual managed to arrange a testing and Vaccination station at our local Community centre. We are in the second last Suburb in Sydney’s South East and not close to the larger centres where such things happen. You really must be in the country or else very isolated.

    • It didn’t surprise me, but I really did not expect it. We had the Biontech Pfizer which did not have such a large reaction for me, although I have heard the the booster can give a stronger reaction. We are in the Swiss state of Solothurn with the main town Solothurn just along the road, but no. They have now shifted the vaccinations stations further along the road a ten minute train journey – and you have to make an appointment. It seems a country like yours with millions of population has everything better under control than our little Switzerland with its only eight million.

      • Yes,I am forgetting your small size and population. We have 26 million,12 million in N.S.W. with 4 of those in Sydney. Compared to Britain and America we are small,so few people in this huge continent.

  3. that last photo is so hope inspiring I find!
    I felt TERRIBLE after my 2nd Covid shot. Really bad – arm swollen to the size and texture of an orange, after 3 wks arm was still showing the circumference marking a brown patch of same size. Fever, I who never ever has a fever, my normal temp is 35.6, all the aches one hears about and the worst bit: My brain suffered – I knew what I wanted to say but I couldn’t say the words. Did tons of sudokus and stuff and am now more or less back to ‘normal’ (whatever that means).
    I’m sure you had more than a light flu attack. Some react stronger than others. Hope you’ll get through winter w/o another hitch.

    • I had no back reactions to my Covid shot at all – no swelling and the arm felt OK. My one big problem now is to get a booster jab. I have no possibility to get to the place to get the jab and although the van was travelling around to various villages, they came nowhere near ours. It is not everyone that has a chauffeur around the corner, and I refuse to pay for a taxi to get my jab. This morning the lady on the phone told me eventually she must move on, there are other people waiting on the phone. I just wish I could get to the BAG and tell them what I think of their organisation.

      • I would contact the BAG…. they need to know where their services (services??? ha ha) are lacking (or maybe you tell them where they work, that might be faster!). Good luck.

  4. The flu is an infection that surprises you with fever around 39 degrees and higher. So trust me, it WAS a mild version.
    The real flu can easily last for a fortnight, and after leave you unable to even lightly exercise. The real flu is a heavy infection. Just some sore throat does not cut it.

    • I know I remember my last bout of flu, although it was almost 20 years ago. I was so hoping that this would be a milder form, which it was, although I still felt on death’s door. I remember that my last flu left me with no appetite. I just did not expect it.

  5. I was in charge of organizing our employees for flu shots at work for many, many years, but never did get one myself. And after hearing all you have gone through, I don’t plan on getting it in the future. It is good to see you back here, Pat. I think the birds were showing off their acrobatics for you–‘Mrs AngloSwiss is back!!’

  7. I’m very happy you’re feeling better. My flu shot made my vulnerable shoulder hurt as if I had just injured it. I hope you get the booster soon. That gave me a reaction, but not as bad as that to the flu shot.

    • I am entitled to rhe booster, but it is expected that I travel by train to get it, the same for Mr. Swiss. The Swiss have made one big mess up with the Organisation. It seems to be only available for the fittest

        • They no longer see the forest because there are too many trees. I would say that this Covid problem has shown how many world governments are lost and no longer make sensible decisions. I am also thinking here of Britain. They neglected their national health system for many years, and now they have the result

          • The only thing impeding the US right now is the people who think the virus is fake and won’t get vaccinated. It’s terrible. Our hospitals are as crammed with sick people as before there was a vaccine.

  8. Sorry to hear that you haven’t been well. I hope you are feeling better soon and that the flu shot prevents you from any further chance of getting flu after giving it to you. It is a problem being in a rural area if you don’t have a car. Everyone does seem to assume that either you drive or have family members who can drive you to these things and that is not always the case. That was why it took me so long to get my first Covid shot. I will get the second one next month so the booster is a long way in the future.

    • Have now recovered from the negative effect of my very first flu jab. I hope it remains a single expterience. I have now been able to organise the covid booster at the drug store in town. It is not so far and they will jab Mr. Swiss and me, so we will probably take a taxi. My first two covid shots were OK and no negative problems. I hope the booster will also be OK.
