Good Morning

And the sun has risen after a rainy cold windy day yesterday. Perhaps the wind has blown the cobwebs away. I noticed the spider that moved into the corner behind the bathroom door had departed to the land when spiders go when they have departed from their spidery life. Did someone mistakiingly overlook him on the floor? It was not me I know, I always take care of my spiders, but there he was with little curled up legs. I am sure one of his colleagues will take over where he left off.

I seems that our postman no longer has to ring once or twice, as there is a new delivery service for my online orders of items that catch my eye and if you go to the laundry room in the evening as I often do as electricity if half price from 9.00 p.m. There might be a parcel left at the entrance as is was yesterday.

Yesterday evening I discovered this strange object in a parcel at the entrance to our apartment block. I knew it was for me as I had ordered it from my kitchen gadget supplier. I am a succour for such things. It is a new vegetable cutter, manually operated. It arrived in a flat pack, so I spend half an hour working out how to assemble it which was a little complicated, but I managed it. The web site even had a video to show how to complete it, although I had to play the video, stopping and starting until I got to the details. The idea is to put the veg into the opening on the left and pump up and down with the green lever which cuts the various sizes. You can chop slices in various sizes or rods of carrots and celery etc. I got the idea of the slices, but had to give up with the rods and decided to leave it for the morning. However, when I examined the contents of the delivery box for the invoice to pay I discovered folded up together with the post slip was a page with printed instructions. I had then already given up and decided to save it for today. Mr. Swiss had already retired, but I could not resist disturbing him to tell him there was an instruction leaflet. I am sure he slept better afterwards with the solution. Unfortunately I do not really have anything to cut at the moment. There is a built in safety piece to stop you cutting your fingers. It is not dishwasher proof, but you get a small brush with it to clear away the unwanted refuse. They really think of everything. Having dealt with this little excitement I managed to sleep well.

I had one of my usual visitors outside on the porch yesterday. This time Roschti decided to take it easy on the porch, occupying one of the chairs. He is certainly at home at my place. He has not yet visited this morning, but the other cat has.

My robin also visited yesterday as every day. He really likes to have it all for himself and waits patiently until the sparrows and other visitors have had their fill. I am now getting down to the rest of the bird food and am wondering to order a new bag or not.

Yesterday I had a late night. There was a film about the British comedian Tony Hancock. He died many years ago, but I really loved his humour. He seemed to have problems with his life, involving alcohol and depression and eventually took his own life, but left behind a plethora of funny episodes. The Blood Donor was one of the best. Here is a small part, the rest is half an hour and you can find it on YouTube

And now I am off for the usual Friday routine. The week-end is just round the corner, so enjoy it.

  2. Good Morning!
Do you remember when I wrote about ‘Arachnophobia’? Well, I don’t expect you to. It was a long time ago, and I know you read a lot. It was about how my colleague down south is actually afraid of spiders. Yes, he is a landscape designer who is afraid of spiders. It was a long but silly story.
It seems so wrong that so many comedians who make others happy are actually afflicted with depression. Robin Williams was so convincingly funny that it is impossible to imagine that his life was so difficult. When I was a kid, I thought that Lucille Ball was funny, but my Pa disliked her very much because she was so unpleasant to him when he was a kid. She looked so happy and pretty! Vivian Vance, who was Ethel Mertz in most of the comedy shows done by Lucile Ball, was famously depressed.

  3. Good afternoon, it is another spring day and the weekend will be the same. My computer is slowly losing power so I am not doing much but reading books until I get a new one. Your new gadget looks interesting. I do enjoy your posts. Have a stress-free day.

  4. Roschti looks very content on that chair. One of the my outdoor cats runs to one particular chair in our backyard. She waits until I sit, then jumps on my lap. Our little routine in the morning.
That slicer looks pretty great. I like that all the slices will be a uniform size. I try with the knife, but never quite succeed.

    • Both of my cat visitors like to sit on the chairs on the porch. Unfortunately the cushions are full of cat hairs afterwards. I haven’t used the slicer yet. New machines are OK when you get used to rhem

Love this – wishing you a not too cold weekend. We spend ours in Sigriswil, high above Lake Thun, a city which is amongst my faves…. If you’re on WApp, I cd send you some pics and vids…. it’s lovely but oh so windy and far too cold (for what we took along!).

    • I know Sigriswil quite well. We often spent our holidays in the Bernese Overland and made excursions to Sigriswil. We could also reach Sigriswil in a daily excursion from Solothurn: just a bit more than an hour by the Autubahn for us. It is really a lovely place. I could send you some of my photos of the village. And I also love Betty Bossi. The lockdown has encouraged my interest in cooking. She has a very good Spatzli maker

      • Yes, discovering our home country is the bonus side of the lockdown. We love the views from this weekend rental we found on airbnb and we drove down to the lake and had a long wander yesterdy to Thun, which is, incidentally, one of my favourite towns in Switzerland anyway. Today with the cold winds & the stormy weather we just made short walks within Sigriswil & Oberhofen.
One of my sis was an eager Bossi fan. She bought and bought, until one day she didn’t any longer. That’s when she found out that the local brocante had about 5 Spätzli makers on sale…. 🙂
One of my sis in law has a subscription for the journal and only cooks with the BB cookery books. It’s true, everything is doable and easy, well described and actually works well.
I send greetings over the hills to you and wish you a pleasant Sunday. Here it’s gonna be Spaghooooose, a large bowl of mixed salads (taken with us from home, about 5 diff. Sorts plus parsley, radishes & grains), a half-home-made tomato sauce and a fantastic red from Chianti (96 points of 100) – I know it means nothing to you but for us it’s the Tüpfli uf em i……

        • Although I have a few (a lot) of Betty Bossi Cook Books, I also have my own recipes. My first job in Switzerland was in an office where the boss was a Pakistani, his wife Swiss, and I lived in with the family. He also had an Indian restaurant and I was quite into iIndian cooking

  6. I remember when I was in Canada, the weather is very cold and unbearable in Vancouver. I sleep very well and sound nevertheless, often in excess of 10 hours. especially during term break. Doctors advised that sleeping can burn off our excessive fats when we have 90 minutes of sleep not being interrupted. This is what the doctor says the REM sleep. Good sleeping without interruptions can cure our depression and anxieties. So sleep well, and have a pleasant mood Angloswiss. Good bye and a very good afternoon to you. Chow.
