Good Morning

After our snow filled day yesterday the rain has arrived, although it will take some time to wash away the snow. If I was still driving I would welcome the rain to clear the roads. Yesterday was another day at home. My No.1 son even ventured into town in the afternoon. I am sure he was one of the very few, I also had news from No. 2 son and his family yesterday. We had one of those online messenger chats. We are not seeing each other at the moment. It is safer. He lives a couple of hours away and in this Winter weather it would not be so advisable. Anyhow modern developments are a positive factor and I once again I saw my grandchildren on ther computer connection. They are growing so fast, especially the one year old. She is developing quickly. Thank goodness they are living in one of the safer Kantons with not so many Covid cases, similar to our Kanton. It is generally improving in Switzerland, although we are long not out of the woods and it will all take time.

I was again busy baking bread yesterday and again it was a success. This time I added a little more salt and it is now quite perfect. I just love mixing the ingredients (in my machine) and watching the success as it rises to double the size. Another kneading session for a few minutes, shape it, put it in the form to rise and then into the oven. The appartment then has the wonderful bakery smell and I have a finished bread for the evening meal. It is wonderful to eat such fresh bread. I have just had some for breakfast this morning with butter and jam, what could be better. I find it a relaxing job and really no stress. When I think back to the beginning of my first catastrophe, but now I have the routine.

The birds arrived thick and fast yesterday. I notice as the weather develops they also develop other habits. Here they seem to be having some wing practice.

I noticed this big bird outside. I think it is a female blackbird.

The male of the species have such bright beaks, such as this one.

I have had a bit of a problem with my Apple computer later. It works perfectly when I attach it to the current, but dies down when working wireless. I contacted our computer guy and I told him what was happening, adding that I think it needs a new internal battery. I have had the computer for about eight years and he agreed that it this is the reason, nothing lasts forever. He has now contacted me after I supplied him with all the details he needed and a new battery will be fitted into the computer. I still had the original receipt for the computer with all the details, so it will be no problem, just a little expensive, but within reason. The computer is the best they had at the time, and since buying it there have been no real big developments. Otherwise I really like my Apple. I have the best of both worlds, as I also have a second windows computer which I mainly use for my photos. The pleasures of a golden oldie.

My robin was everywhere yesterday. Apart from visiting me at my window (there are some seeds on the ground) he was also perched on the birdhouse. This morning he was again hopping round outside my kitchen window.

And now I will be hopping around (with a slight limp) in my apartment dealing with this and that and preparing lunch and perhaps, no definitely, a bread. I know, I just cannot leave it and I do have some wholewheat flower and yeast, so what could be better.

Have a good day, keep your distance, do not socialise too much and do not forget your masks when going places. Of course, wash your hands at every opportunity, even if your hands do get a little sensitive with so much washing and soap – like mine.

  1. Good morning … we had good news yesterday … the supply chain for Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol has been restored and it is available again in our local Costco Store .. which is one of those giant warehouse outfits that is very popular here … so I got four bottles … I used it after hand washing to rub on my hands in case I have missed anything in the germ department. Today is venture out to get more replacement blades for the shaving razor .. every day is a ittle something. Have a great day. Keep feeding those birds .. they love you. SLP …

    • I think my hands will eventually disappear with so much washing. I just use plain good soap at home. There is enough alcoholic stuff in the stores when entering and leaving. You never know what will suddenly not be availalble at the stores. At least we can now get our toilet paper.

  2. I think the birds wait for you to do their acrobatic routines. You catch such good photos of them in action. There was news yesterday of a problem with iPhones and iPads passwords. I am not sure if this pertains to the model you have but you might want to see if you need to do anything. Keep the cyber criminals out!

      • I have iPhone and Apple and iPad. Yesterday I updated my iPhone and iPad with the newest version and am on the newest version of both. Apple updates come automatically for the computer and I am also there on the newest version.
I take a few photos of the birds and there are always a couple that catches them at the right moment.

  3. Good afternoon, The winter storm arrived, and will areas around us are getting hamper with snow. We are only getting the clouds and wind no moisture. The sun evens appears at times. It is my understanding that when birds lift their winds like pictures that they are relating their body temperatures. Starlings have yellow beaks but blackbirds don’t.
The female blackbird and young have a dark rust color. There are a couple of species of blackbirds here. The red-winged blackbird. The males a red patch on the wing. The Brewers black does not. There the aroma of bread baking is delicious. It was great to see your family on the internet Have a pleasant evening. Have a pleasant evening.

    • Our male blackbirds have orange beaks, the only dash of colour against their black feathers. The females are more a dull colour, no colourful beaks and very dark brown feathers. After a day of snow yesterday, today we had rain and half of the snow has aleady melted. I was quite pleased with my bread today and again had a good smell in the apartment.

  4. They get frantic about food when the weather is bad. I just put out some seeds in the flat feeder. The other one is half full, so it can wait for now. It’s snowing lightly at the moment and I don’t think it’s will add up to anything. I spent the early part of the morning trying to find ANYPLACE that was giving vaccinations and the answer was no. I check in about a100 mile radius, too. No vaccines. Or if there are any, they aren’t given any of them out to the public. I pointed out that we are doing really badly with giving out vaccines and they told me to take it up with the governor. Smiling Charlie is still smiling. I’m sure he got HIS vaccine.

    • I have food for the birds in the bird house, on the ground and on my raised bed wall. They seem to know where to go. There is a big argument about availability of vaccine in europe at the moment, the big euphoria is now over and now everyone wants the jab. It is almost becoming a status symbol between those that have had it and those still waiting.

  5. I love your bird pictures. I had a female cardinal visit our maple tree this morning. She was singing outside my window just for me. I would have snapped her picture, but my phone was in the other room, and I didn’t want to miss her aria. Hope you have a great day. Enjoy your bread. Yum.
