RDP Saturday: Dissent

There is not very much of this happening since a year in our town. This was a demonstration to protect our environment, but no-one thinks of the environment protection now. You keep out of the environment as much as possible, there might be some unwanted germs floating in the air. Our daily life is different. Take a walk though the town and you will be lucky to see people. Those that you see are wearing masks. I have not been in town since two weeks. I stay at home and do things I though I would never do.

I have re-organised my complete kitchen. I have the time and discovered some really good plastic boxes in the store that you can close air tight (ordered one by one online). I have them everywhere. One each for my four types of flour (yes I am now baking my own bread now and again), two types of sugar according to the type of cake I am baking and various snacks and other ingredients for cooking. My machines are now visible and ready to use: no good putting them in a cupboard out of sight, I am now using them more. I mix, grate and jucify, they are all there to be used and not to search for. It has taken 50-60 years to do it, but I now have time. I sit at home and pass my time with practicing logistics. We were always advised to have a store of necessary ingredients at home in the case of war, or other unforeseen emergencies. Now the emergency is there in the shape of microbes hiding somewhere and floating perhaps in the air you breathe. However, keep away from other people, wash your hands and everything is under control. The stuff that science fiction films are made of has arrived. Now the great vacination programme is beginning.

And so I am now baking my own bread, learning to make mayonnaise myself (not yet, but getting there) am having everything delivered from the local store and it works: at least it does in our country. Perhaps other countries are not so well organised, but we have a population of just eight million (not counting the almost one million cows – I have not yet learned how to milk one), so it seems to work.

Dissent has now become superfluous, it is now every man/woman for him-herself, so let’s do it.

  1. That sounds pretty much like what we’ve done. I only wish the kitchen had expanded to meet the needs and many items I use these days. I have no idea how I managed to GET a cold this year. I’ve been absolutely nowhere — but Garry picked it up first and we always pass these back and forth. I think he’s beginning to feel a bit better, but I’m just starting so it’ll take a few days. Meanwhile, I bought an Indian cookbook. I want to learn to bake Chicken Tandoori and a proper curry.

    • Gradually I began tomorrow the kitchen. It makes so much difference when everything has its place. When i arrived in Switzerland I lived in with a half Pakistani family, she was Swiss, he was Pakistani and they also had an Indian restaurant. I was eating Indian food for two years often. We did a tandoori, but only by order in advance. Every Indian family has their own special spice mixture known as Garam masala. At the moment I am really enjoying cooking.
No colds here at the moment, but it is too cold for the germs to multiply.
