I did it. In my endeavours to become a master cook, I made my own soup. I know. it is no great achievement, but my soups usually came from a paket in powder form: cook it in water and serve. I decided it was time to develop my cooking skills and know what you were actually eating. Apart from that. our local supermarket has only two soups on offer: tomato and vegetable. For anything more you have to go to one of the major stores and that is in another village and you need a car.

Now and again I might make a pumpkin soup, but that is only once a year in Autumn. Today I made a yellow pea soup with diced bacon, naturally coupled with a cheese homemade flan. Basically it was a success although Mr. Swiss did find he prefers the soups from a packet. I suppose you cannot please all of the people all of the time. My No. 1 son enjoyed it and was looking for more aftrwards. I think it was one of those soups where my mum would say “it sticks your lungs together”.

The next one on the list is a tomato soup, there are untold possibilities. Mr. Swiss made no comment to this development. I suppose I could make a tomato soup and buy a packet to keep Mr. Swiss happy.

  1. Mr Swiss, the soup heathen… a dry packet of soup vs the real thing? Good Lord, stand your ground Pat; HE will learn to appreciate a good thing when he sees it! Or rather, eat it.

  2. I so enjoy homemade soup. Seems I only make it in colder weather, though. I made a cold raspberry once–it was supposed to be ‘cool and refreshing on a hot summer day.’ It did not go down well. I will stick with cold-weather soups!
