I am Ahmed Abdi, a Wordpress blogger and storyteller who searches for stories that inspire people. I love writing because it’s a reflection of how I perceive the world around me. Lost in a world of endless chaos in my childhood, Unforgettable moments of tragedy and triumphs taught me the art of storytelling where I found myself through letter writing and then turned into stories but then sadly had lost everything I wrote for years. In 2018, I decided to create a Wordpress blog site that would allow me to store and retrieve every piece. Stories from my community, city and people are what make my writing so interesting and inspiring! I’m a tea lover so a cup of tea sometimes makes my blog.

I love the splotches of color on the orchid. It is a beauty! Mine seem to be coming back. There’s a lot of new growth and I’ve started feeding mine again. Got my fingers crossed that they will flower again. Meanwhile, I’m trying to decide if, after the next blooming, I should report it. I bought the soil, but I haven’t bought a pot yet. I’m not sure what kind of pot I need — or how big. Having never repotted an orchid, I have no idea how big or little their root systems are, so it’s a hard call to make. But yours is absolutely unique. I really haven’t seen another orchid like that, not even in the shops.

My orchids do not have earth, they are potted in something like long wood pieces and the roots do not need a lot of room, they are quite fleshy. I never thought about repotting mine. In their Natural surroundings they Root on trees.

Dear AngloSwiss and Marilyn Armstrong,
For those of you who are interested in mastering the cultivation of Phalaenopsis, you are very welcome to read my very detailed post entitled “Phalaenopsis: Novice’s Orchid, Mother’s Day Gift and woodlandgnome’s House Plant”, which is published in my other blog at https://queenslandorchid.wordpress.com/2017/06/20/phalaenopsis-novices-orchid-mothers-day-gift-and-woodlandgnomes-house-plant/
Please enjoy! Happy December to you very soon!

Read your piece. Nice research. I have NOT found that keeping the soil moist works. I wait until it is really dry, then water it. Lightly. Maybe it’s because it’s not in a warm environment or the pot in which is came doesn’t let it dry out. Moreover, the dining room is cool year round. I bought orchid soil, which is not unlike the growing medium we use to start baby plants from seeds.
The one I’m thinking about repotting to is actively growing. I’m not sure it’s in the right medium. Also, it was dark purple when my husband brought it home. When it subsequently bloomed, it was white with a purple center. No hint of solid purple.

This kind of red spotting is called the Harlequin-type spotted flower. As far as I can remember, it is probably first developed in Taiwan.

it’s gorgeous. I’ve never seen it in any of the shops here, but maybe in a bigger greenhouse.

Dear Marilyn,
Yes, Harlequin-type Phalaenopsis are uncommon, and may not even be available for the public to buy at some large Phalaenopsis nurseries and Orchid Shows.
