  1. We just know them as hellebores. I used to grow them. People payed a lot of money for the cultivars, but they were no better than the seedlings that we also sold much more cheaply. I did not enjoy growing them, and I enjoy them even less in the landscapes here. They are popular because they perform ‘reasonably’ well in the shade of redwoods. However, they do not do well enough for me. They would probably perform better if I cleaned away their old foliage that disease overwinters in.
