In France, you NEVER EVER bring a Chrysanthemum as a gift, as it is THE flower for/of the dead…. I once committed this major crime and I think I only got acquitted because everybody knew I was a foreigner….. To me personally, for years and years the hydrangea was a ^no go^. It’s interesting, isn’t it?!

In my British origins lillies were the flower of the dead.

Flowers of the deceased need not be such a crime. I suppose it depends on the culture and the occasion. Dia de los Muertos was a few days ago. Marigold is the official flower of Dia do los Muertos, but because it honors the deceased, it is always welcome. My colleague believes that white gladiolus are for funerals, but I really want to grow them in my garden again.

Probably not, but it will not prevent me from growing white gladiolus.
